A tickler email was sent to me, by a friend, about this issue:

I'm sure a lot of you know about the @#&^%$ court ruling in Sep, 2006 regarding dropping the exemption of recreational boats from EPA regulations concerning ballast water discharge from commercial boats (the concern of the regulation is mostly about invasive marine species from other countries like China).

The EPA, NMMA, other boating organizations and even the environmental group that brought the suit to tighten the regs, for ships entering here from foreign ports, did not want the court to touch the 34 year exemption for rec boats. But some, brainless, radical, psychotropically drug hindered, head-up-his-or her-a$$, uninformed, 9th Circuit Court (where have we seen that one before - can you say "Pledge of Allegiance"?) judge decided to strike down the exemption.

Some here may not know about the implications of this, so here's a link to some information about this issue. If the EPA's appeal (may take a few years) of the ruling fails or congress doesn't enact specific legislation exempting rec boats from these regs, we all (~18 million of us) may be subject to discharge permit fees (by Sep, 2008 ) that could range from $800 - $2000 just to have a R/W or bilge pump in your boat. OK, first Sharphooks take a breath and calm down.
This seems like an important issue and I'm sure many of us will look further into it.
Your first post didn't disappear, nobody responded, and it had 42 views when I just checked on it. Most of the members of SFC don't start rants after reading something like that, they start researching it further and making informed decisions. So thank you for bringing it to our attention, I plan on looking into it.
As for #1 Lurker, if you look everybody has a little tag there, its Admin John's sense of humor, and it has to do with your # of posts I think mine says "I think Admin might let me have this space" other say "Crab Mustard is Good"
Keep posting and it will change.

Chuck's right. We don't start writing letters to congressmen simply because someone puts up a hyped thread that is long on drama and short on fact. Just like your similar posts on other boards quickly died, it will here too unless there is some fact and detail included.

Sounds to me like you are beating a special interest drum, and trying to scare boat owners into supporting you cause. We're generally smarter than that. Put up some good info and educate your audience if you want them to help your cause.

Sorry about the KMA(they are not my initials) As far as being mad about this,I'm not.I just thought it was removed from the forum for some reason I did'nt know.After all I posted it on two seperate occasions.I thought if I came off with a RANT I might get some response,so thanks for letting me know what had happened to my post.All I want to do is get the word out about this because we are all in the same boat so to speak.I hope the members here listen and respond to the people who can stop this rediculous law from passing.Thank you for your timely response.
