Question MAUI JIMS VS. COSTAS HELP!

    Okay heres the Deal,

Im getting a new pair of Sunglasses.

Ive had a pair of costa fathoms for a while, i love them, but am getting something new.

I havent decided on weather i whant the Costa fathoms with the 580 lenses in blue,

Or a pair of Maui Jims.

Ive never used Mauis, heard some good things about them, Especially that they have good lenses. I love the costa frames, and am wondering about the new 580 lenses, are they really as good as they say???

The thing that scares me about the maui jims is they only have a 1 year warranty when costas have a lifetime?

The price is just about the same, so im not taking putting that in the equation.

Also are the maui frames weaker? they seemed a little more brittle?

    Any help is appreciated.

My experience w/MJs is that they're a heavier set of glasses. The difference in lens quality was no noticable.

Shane I have a pair of harpoons with the 580's I can tell a little difference between them and the older lenses. The big thing I've noticed with the costas is the lenses seem to resist scratches and dings better then anything else I've tried.

Shane, I've had both and both are great products. Scientific mumbo jumbo is just that--- what it comes down to is what is most comfortable to YOUR eyes and how they fit. If possible try them both on outside before buying. Don't worry about the warranty---- your dumb ass is going to loose them anyway..

i have both. I am a BIG fan of the Costas - BUT!!!!!!! do not get caught up in the hype of their warranty. Friends have told me over the last year or 2 that their warranty service was getting worse but I did not want to believe it. I have had great luck with them in the past but they recently hosed me pretty badly on a warranty claim.

I won a pair of Maui Jims at the Calcutta this spring and I like them a lot. They seem very well built and fit well. They are heavier, and actually a little heavier than I like. I wish they had a blue mirror option but they do not. I have not ever had a warranty claim with Maui Jim - have not had the glasses long enough.

I like them both. Costas are my favorite, hands down. Just do not let the warranty be the reason you decide to buy one over the other. Find the one that fits and performs best for your needs and buy them - then hope ya never have to deal with a warranty claim cause you will not likely be happy with the outcome.

the warranty is only good if there is a default for the costas

i have a pair of the fathom 580's and i love them.....if i lost them right now i would be on my way to go get another pair

but what ever you like the best is what you should get

I spend my fair share of time on the water and Maui Jim has been my choice. Before the 580's I would have said no contest...now Costa has narrowed the gap but the Maui's are still the way to go IN MY OPINION...but I am certainly not going to go on about the technical merits of them because I have no clue. I just know the Maui's have taken a beating and not broken (going on three years now) and the lenses are awesome as compared to Costa's I owned several years ago. Probably can't go terribly wrong either way.

talk to crazy eyes about them. He showed me a pair that oakley is making now and they were pretty darn amazing as well. He said they wouldn't smudge either.
