Now I gotta take you out back of the Taco King dumpster and go Deep on ya...
When propped at my helm, my body is sideways but my head is faced aft. My eyes seldom leave the baits except to check the guages and all that involves is just relaxing my neck muscles to give that quick glance.

In the tower I have a small spot next to the wheel where I lean. Always standing never looking out of the baits except a quick peak to look for rips or birds or bait.

Ask Intruder Kenny about me on a bridge and how I can clear the eight steps from his and be on a fish before the rest of the crew in the pit ever had a clue. No you don't want to stand under his bridge ladder there either.

On my lower station I explained why I sit , when I sit. To keep from getting purreed by getting slung from the helm seat...People on my boat can tell when "it" is about to happen. I'm off the wheel and in position where I saw him raising from my seat.

Box - ( i Know I'm gonna catch chit for this one) but if you troll 6 marlin lures ala Deep then ...........

Now don't go filing your topsiders Deep. This scupper ain't up for a bashing. I was just toying with ya.

I agree 100% with you Marty. I very rarely sit when I am at the helm and better yet Dove Hunt who usually runs the boat when I don't is always fiddling up their. He works the contours and birds, bait and breaks always. He always has a reason for why he is doing what he is doing.

Ok thats it... Topsiders are sharpened andloaded. Scuppers got a bullseye on it...Trained man-o-wars have been given a piece of your clothing and homing in on the scent...

You don't see me dragging all lure spreads very often at all but when dragged right they are a load of work. Each sea direction requires resetting distances. Each turn has one tag being let out and the slack on the others taken up.

Most of my time is on my feet. In the islands I'm part of the tower getting tenderized. But I don't let up one bit when I am sitting. When you're in a tree stand are you standing non stop? Can you not see the same stuff sitting? Hell I dont even use a stand. I stand on the ground surrounded by cover with "windows".
I even let my mate sit on the tackle station from time to time as long as he can get to the baits quick without "thumping" the deck.

So now I see only one way for the Box to see how I do this. My mate has a tough schedule with his own business and often can't do the whole Bahamas trip. I'm usually left alone. So now I have an idea on how we can retrain the Boxy one into a more tollerant position. I think I should step to the pump, buy him a ticket and fly him down for a couple legs of Chub Cay magic so he can see for himself... Go get a passport Box...

I dunno... Its manly man type stuff. No luxury... Sleep on deck and cook out kind of stuff... You know the drill. 20 or so big mahi and wahoos picking on you between the billfish bites. No phones, net, even TV

    Capts:
-One of our brilliant skippers used to stand dead infront of the 60 mile radar in his tighty whities while en route to the fishing grounds. He did this everyday. He wanted to "be able to go bareback for the rest of his life". His nickname was Chester the Molester. He rarely caught fish & he didn't care at all. I have a great story about Chester & a 8 hours booze cruise that I will tell later.

-The boat owner/part time Capt of one of the headboats I worked on was dubbed "El Sid". He would only show up when his capt called in sick (see Chester) & was usually 3/4 in the bag from the night before. The moment we cleared the inlet, the auto pilot was set (to the same location every time) & he would slump over in his chair & go for the ride. Hence the "El Sid" nickname. No matter how rough or nasty it got, he never fell out of his chair. Once his autopilot alarm went off, he would drop lines & go back to sleep. We always caught fish when EL Sid was onboard.

-The evening cruise capt was quite the ladies man & he went by the nickname "Disco Teeth". His gig was to rattle his false teeth together to the beats of the music in bar & dance hall drinking contests. He also did this during the cruise over the PA system & told stories of his talent show victories.
Okay , here we go : While doing the hedjug/headboat mate gig , I get a call from the captain at about 3 AM telling me that I should be on my toes and report back to him about any and everything that goes on tomorrow as he has finally found a fill-in cap to go bottom fishing off of OC . This cap had already been on numerous trips with us to get acclimated to the boat . This became a regular once a week deal for said cappy who was running the "Ducks" in DC and Bmore . As juggy knows , the cap gives the "Speech" in the morning on questionable days that goes something like this : Good morning folks , this your captain Joe Blow and we're looking at some possible rough weather this morning but nothing that we can't handle . It's a little "BREEZY" with the winds out of the NW at about 20 to 25 . If anyone is prone to the mal de mer , please take your meds now as they will be useless once we get under way If we determine that fishing will be "dangerous" or too rough for productive fishing , we will return to the dock . You will be issued a "Rain Check" , not a refund , that can be used on a future trip Anyway , we ran out into some brutal seas and I can barely here the caps request for me to come to the wheelhouse . Upon my arrival he asks me: What do you think ? I said you've got a bunch of scared shitless tourists and a few hard-core fishermen that want to keep gettin' up . Onward we go ! After we get close to where we were gonna set up , we take a rogue wave over the bow , must have been a 12 or bigger . It was damn near impossible to fish but the dude was adamant about catching some fish . I can go on and on about this day but let me say this : That was the first time I've seen a guy run an 85 footer and get it almost airborn ! We never did get on the hook , alot of folks were banged around and we caught bupkus ! To make it worse , when we got in to the dock , he hadn't a clue as to how to get her right to the dock . After numerous tries , I get my spring line fast and he hits the throttles and pulls the port side bit right off the gunwale ! Snap , crunch ! Anyone that has ever worked on a headboat knows how fast the idiots onboard want to depart and even though you beat into their heads to wait , there were people that could have been killed or maimed if I hadn't yelled and screemed to stay back ! Needless to say , that was the last time said cappy ran that boat , other than the occasional dolphin watching cruise .

Me thinks the "el Boxo has slipped under the radar on this... Could it be? Days of no response... The suspense is killing me... Has Ponytail reeled him in so tight he cant play? Is he askeeered that I might spot more fish from my seated butt than him on his tippy toes? Enquiring minds gotsta know!

This aint til the slobs are well past you. Its an April thing. Pre big rock. Its a working gig for 8-12 days... Trust me there will be no "fun" involved...
Wahoo at Chub run big and will shred a six bait marlin spread a couple times a day. Mahi from 30-60 so thick they'll make you cry. Usually if they are around I'll try to stay away but for you I might make the exception.
Oh yeah then your dirty white boys come big and bad in the pocket. 100lbers are not uncommon and could even be a record class one in there. I had one 130+ and have seen one bigger... Then for fun a quad of blues can be irritated into piling on a spread...
