If you had a very large bank account, and were building a 65' sportfish, what would you power it with, and why? Cats, mans, mtus, luggers, etc.

can only go by personal experience here, we have manns in the viking right now, never go back, have had more problems then you can shake a stick at. going with cats in the new one, keeping my fingers crossed.

Cats iguess man is a prety good motor though some seem to smoke alot. Mtu ain't bad now that they have the sequential turbo problems under control. Luggers are really dependable not sure how high there HP goes to though. My pick would be CAT 60 and under C-18's above 60 C-32's. With Twin disc gears.

Fished on a couple of vikings with 10 and 12 cyl mans exact same problems plus by the end of the day ya needed a dang gas mask to be in da pit. Also fished a 56 ocean with 1050 10cyl mans one let go on us at Pirates cove torn a couple of years ago blew a hole in the block size of ya fist man tech said had no clue why 283 hrs. on motor blew at 1650 rpms. ?
dead on trophy, in the 56 we have the 12 cyl, 1550 hp. when those preheaters went down, well needless to say, cleaning the stern was not fun.

I would have to go with the new cummins....... Very efficient and power to size. I've run mans, DD's Cats and now have a Lugger which is user friendly, But my vote would still be the new Cummins!!
Cummins are what i have great motors for under 700 hp cummins or lugger are hard to beat.
for small engines 500 hp and under id go with yanmar...great engines
