    Mako's on the troll

While fishing in the IRBA blue fish tournament this weekend we had a mako swim into the spread. It followed the baits for about 5 mins and then dissappeared. Anyone know what can tease them up into a strike on the troll?

Glad to hear the news ! He was or ifin a big mako, she was filling up on your 14 lb. blues. How was the tournament ? We had a male charge a trolled lure a few years back. He missed the first two times. Once from the right, once from the center and finally hit the lure after coming to the transom and doing a 180 turn he hit the lure on the way out. It was not a long battle. The mono was 100 class on the leader. A couple of dog legs right with a jump and he was free to grow up with his buddies. Yes it was green lure WahoonBox

I think this mako was just too full of blue fish to grab a lure. It was just curious and swam up into the spread. It followed a couple of lures for about 5 mins and then split. Nice size fish, would have liked to had him for din din, but I think too full for a full on attack. I've seen them do this before, I didn't know if there are any tricks out there that can trigger them to strike.

Good tournament. Lots of fish, but we came up short on the weight. All the fish were the 9- 10 # range. We went out a little deep to try and find some larger fish, but all the fish we brough up were the same size. We do now have plenty of bait for Mako mania and the OC shark tournament.

On nice days they LOVE a nice BIG trolling squid rigged properly. We went out of chincoteague this past weekend but no dice, just one blueshark. Sometimes if there is no luck during the drift try this anyway no matter the sea.
