what year are you looking at???

we looked closely at this boat when we were upgrading, and after all the comments back on it decided against it. I love the layout of the boat, but it beats you up. it was not put together with top notch fittings. . . etc. they type while running that will start throwing screws and bolts at you. . .no extensive first hand experience with the boat, but did know a few who owned them and said they would not buy another one. also knew a guy who wouldnt give his up for the world.

i believe its pre 94 that you have to stay away from, but not 100% on that one. im sure someone here knows better than me.

We were looking at ones from 93-96......thanks for the comments......keep em coming.

We love the layout of the boat. its almost perfect for what we want. We want a boat that can make some distance yet have a small area for our little one to call her own....we have a CC now and she spends half her time making a fort in the head......LOL.....

Now, how sad (or smart) am I using my six year old as an excuse to buy a bigger boat!!!

Keep looking - The boat rides like a porn star - hard and wet. and sits even worse. I have been on many and they are all the same. the ride is aweful. And when sittng on the chunk rolls like a fat man on a moon bounce. I think it is becuase the lack of reverse chine but I am not sure. All I know is I couldn't wait to get off.

i havea customer with a 290... the boat is built terrible-the absolute cheapest equipment possible..the electrical system is also a mess..the only good part about this boat is the engines yanmar diesels...the boat rides terrible...the lenco tabs failed so many times,i replaced them with bennett...look elsewhere...it's a buyer's market right now-relax and take your time, make an informed decision....

I have a 93 290 Open with 170 HP Yanmars in it. Runs slow compared to the latest of speed boats. Trimmed properly, not as wet as any other boat in its class. I haven't found anything majorly wrong with the construction, but would have changed somethings (every boat has things everyone would change). You have to remember one thing with this boat, it looks big, feels big but it isn't big. You have to pick your trips to the canyon and any overnight. I have had mine for 3 years and made my first canyon overnight 2 weeks ago. Running it handles 3 feet and less great, over that up to 5 feet alright, over that, can't tell you. The ride is good and the drift is bearable. Remember, it has a pretty deep V in it. It will roll no matter the size. Feel free to e-mail for any other questions.
