looks like the auot makers are screwed...

oh well, looks like the auto makers are not gonna get anything...seen this on fox news...also was reported tha tthe unions refused to make concessions on their pay and benifits package.good !! let those guys collect unemployment-merry christmas uaw members...bailing the auto mfg's out is a waste of money, they're failing and they're gonna fail if they get a bail out package-they need to fix the system for themselves.

Good to see Jimmy watching FoxNews...

Here's the deal; When the hell did it become a priority of the Federal Government to become the Czar's of Banking & now the Automobile industry???

If you ask me, these two things are two GIANT steps into Communism.

Seems someone in the WhiteHouse is trying EVERYTHING in his last few months to take care of some directives from Rockefeller... Now, since the Senate told them to shit in their hats, the WhiteHouse is scrambling to make sure the finance goons in Washington get the car business... here's the latest: http://www.foxnews.com/politics/2008...auto-industry/

You would think that a job would be better than no job. I don't understand why the UAW wasn't willing to give some concessions. Now they will be drawing unemployment till it runs out. It will be far reaching when the Big 3 have to shut their doors. It affects all the industries that supply parts.

    What's wrong with this picture?

Dr. Mark J. Perry, professor of economics and finance at the University of Michigan, recently released a study concerning UAW pay/benefits in America in competition with Japanese automakers' and professors'. The study declared "the average UAW worker with a high school diploma earns 57.6% more compensation than the average university professor with a Ph.D. and 52.6% more than the average worker at Toyota , Honda or Nissan. There must be some kind of TRANSFORMATIONAL CHANGE!

    According to Forbes:

Labor cost per hour, wages and benefits for hourly workers, 2006.

    Ford: $70.51 ($141,020 per year)

    GM: $73.26 ($146,520 per year)

    Chrysler: $75.86 ($151,720 per year)

Toyota, Honda, Nissan (in U.S. ): $48.00 ($96,000 per year)

According to AAUP and IES, the average annual compensation for a college professor in 2006 was $92,973 (average salary nationally of $73,207 + 27% benefits).

Bottom Line: The average UAW worker with a high school diploma earns 57.6% more compensation than the average university professor with a Ph.D., and 52.6% more than the average worker at Toyota , Honda or Nissan.

Many industry analysts say the Detroit Three, and especially Ford, must be on par with Toyota and Honda to survive. This year's contract, they say, must be "transformational" in reducing pension and health care costs.

What would "transformational" mean? One way to think about: "transformational" would mean that UAW workers, most with a high school diploma, would have to accept compensation equal to that of the average university professor with a Ph.D.

simple fact-unions are killing everything.the cost of labor is what causes the price in everything to go up.common sense here,we all want to save money, right ??? this is the reason more and more manufacturing is moving outta the country-cost of labor...the unions have a stangle hold on manufacturing, sad part is,the unions are pricing themselves outta the market...$42 per hr to drive a truck-what a joke...these guys deserve to starve...wonder what these guys are gonna do with the the big blow up rat ???? mabey they shoulda brought that to washington with them, coulda set it up on the side walk in front of the white house...

    Two thoughts

I wonder if the government will come and save all the small businesses that are going under.

Also remember the British government tried for years to support/save the British car industry and it still went under.

ok, ive been keeping quiet on this, time to way in. While I totally agree, the system is not the best... You are looking at these giants, has anyone considered the ripple effect this will have on the economy ???

first the employee pensions, will fall back on the government, yes the government, they guarantee 50 cents on the dollar, ooops.

The dealerships, that employ people, closed. more out of work. ooops

The gas stations that the cars that are sold .... there businesss goes down. while they may continue, they certainly won't be looking to ad people.

one economist estimates the job loss at 3 million, ooops

of these three million, guaranteed they have something to do with everyones livelyhood. ooops

these are just the things that i see. IMHO.

and just a final, for those of you who own these vehicles and are still under warranty, where you going to get the work done ?

Bush will give them money from the original 700 billion or whatever asinine amount it was.

At what point do we say stop? Banking, Auto, Why not boating?, building?.....etc. Why not just do away with competition totally? It worked for Russia

How about make the Unions take it in the ass. The politicians are only jockeying for votes and the regular folks in America are getting screwed.

There is a major disconnect in this country when it comes to the Government. People see it as the great and powerful OZ, but in reality it's a pile of useless morons on one big ego trip funded by YOUR HARD WORK.

Hang on folks, there's been some turbulence reported ahead and it's too late to change altitude.
