Looking for infant life vest recomendations

I need to get a life vest for my new grandson. He's five months old and I plan on taking him out on the boat as soon as the weather gets nice. Does anybody have a recomendation on what brand of vest to buy and where I can purchase one?

    Thanks,

    Capt. Al Rittmeyer

Capt Al if you are in OC check in with Doug Ake(Ake Marine in West OC). He will put you on what you need and order it for you. You will have it in no time. I think you will limited selection wise maybe Stearns. Dont ever remember seeing a type 1 pfd that small.

    Advise

I bought a type 3 with type one performance at west marine for my son a couple of months a go. however it was kind of pricy. and as we all know the little fellow will not fit in there for more than a year.\

the wife said she saw some good ones at sams club, costco and even k-mart and walmart and much better prices

    good luck

Kids are grown but keep the size correct

Don't mean to come off like a jerk but never buy a life vest for a child to grow into. If they hit the water with any force they will begin to slip out of a too large one and could end up in bigger trouble being positioned wrong in the vest. You can probaly get two years out of a vest if not put it on ebay.

With infants leg straps are a must as is the head pillow to keep em right isde up.

Used to be with Water Ski Association as a competitor, judge, driver and safety director...Have fun and use lots of sun block

Thanks for all the suggestions. When it comes to safety (especially my grandson!) I'll spend whatever it takes to get the best equipment I can. I got him a fishing pole for Christmas when he was only 1 month old. I'll have to break it in for him until he is big enough to hold it. It will be a while but I cant wait to post pictures of his first fish!

I have three kids all under the age of seven and have seen just about every childs boat coat on the market. Hands down, go with the mustang fitted for the childs size. Just my 2 cents worth.

    Congrats Grandpa.
I am in the same boat, my grandson was born on Saturday 4/21 and I will be looking for a vest for him (probably not til next season). I am looking at a Spider Man or Sponge Bob fishing pole for him.
Maybe next year when your grandson outgrows the vest you can put it up on the message board and I can get it from you. Just a thought.
    Good Luck

    Live vest info

I ended up getting the Mustang Little legends vest. If anybody needs one I found them at Boaters World in Salisbury for $54. With the 10% MSSA discount it was under $50. West Marine wanted $64.99 and offers no discount. Wish we had a Boaters World in OC! BTW the MSSA member ship pays for it's self in no time if you shop at Boaters World.
