hi guys.
today i steped for the 2nd time within 2 weeks over an article which caught my attention.
it is written by the Australian Charter Captain Ross Hunter with whom i had several contacts about that theme.
thought it will be interesting to have it on this board, so below i copied the thread originally posted by Ross Hunter on an other board.
o.k., o.k., i entered that other board accidentally, lol.
i sent Ross a PM to come over to this board, because it's the best, ya know.

Aussie buy out of longlining
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Hi to all of you from the land down under ...As this is my first post, so allow me to introduce myself... As a father and son team my son Glenn and myself opperate a charter business in Sydney, Australia. We fish the winter season for yellowfin a some huge makos and then we migrate to one of the most productive marlin fishing grounds in Australia Pt Stephens( around 100 nmile to the north. We have fished these amazing grounds for three decades Some noteable achievements The tagging of 21 stripes in a day Feb 2005 on my boat Broadbill and on my sons boat the tagging of 160 marlin in the two month stay We have had 9 Grand slams from this Fishery. The area is common for daily multiples on blacks, blues and striped marlin Average size around 175 lb.
Our boats BROADBILL and BILLFISHER are most respected, a fact we are proud of.
For those interested our web site is www.gamefishingcharters.com.au That will give you a great insight into some ozzie style fishing There are many articles and photos of some great fish and How To articles on marlin, tuna, mahis kingfish and snapper. It is worth a roam.
AUSTRALIA'S FEDERAL GOVERNMENT 220 MILLION BUY OUT OF COMMERCIAL LICENCES
We have had a major win in Australia with our federal government creating a 220 million dollar purse to buy out longliners, deep water trawl and drop liners This has had an effect of reducing our east coast fleet from 120 vessels to 25 currently working.. Our tuna, marlin and broadbill stocks have suffered from overfishing by long lining but the long liners too have suffered from bigger fuel burns to get to the fish that had receeded to the wider waters. So the longliners on the bones of their bums rushed the Goverment buy out.The fish will recover over the next few seasons and that's all good.Maybe it is the way to go, if you can convince your governments!
We will keep you abreast of some Fishing Reports from OZ.
Great to be in the team
Ross Hunter
