Of disquise but, I dont think they were one and the same.......Were they? Longfisher seemed more long winded than lowtide. Lowtide was the Charlie Harper of sfc. He got to the point..........quickly! Longfisher, posted the longest diatribes I ever saw on here.

Yep, I haven't had time for you guys since January 1st when the Healthy Texas program began. It's a state and federal subsidized group health program that is aimed at the working uninsured who are low-wage, precisely the same ones who end up in the ER's here for free care and whose families end up on Medicaid, a program that is currently busting the state's budget.

It's a remarkable program and I'm very excited that it's being offered and that I have a chance to participate in its sale. I think this is the sort of thing that government was intended to do for Texas citizens. We have the highest rate of employed uninsured in the nation. And, it's absolutely busting our bank account.

I only wish the commissions were higher. They're so low that i'm barely covering my costs. Oh, well. Charity doesn't hurt anyone.

It's three times cheaper to subsidize group health here than to support a family on Medicaid.

Oh, an update on a situation I posted about some months ago. You'll remember that I live in a relatively affluent neighborhood and that a neighbor of mine was laid off from a bank he worked with. Well, his COBRA ran out and he needed health insurance for his two kids and for himself. Without going through all the gory details, he applied for virtually every program in Texas, CHIP, Medicaid, Gold Card Dental program, CIGNA private plans, etc. and was declined due to either making too much money (about $3,093/mo.) or having too many pre-existing conditions.

He's just like you guys and me, white, middle-class or upper-middle class, married with a sound family, etc. But he fell on hard times and wasn't eligible for health insurance. Pity. He has some serious health conditions.

His only resort now is the Texas Health Insurance Pool (THIRP), the insurer of last resort. But to get on the pool he's going to be spending an absolutely huge amount of money which he can't afford given that he's unemployed right now.

Trapped. That what he is. Just like so many middle-class Americans today who can't find work and whose health is not so good. Actually, the majority of those suffering like this today are the middle class. I know that rocks your world to think that the safety net was set up just for blacks and hispanics, THE DREADED OTHERS! Ain't so. Never was so.

Under the existing system which Obama is trying to fix my neighbor has two choices, put food on the table and physically deteriorate or buy insurance and keep his health. Pretty desparate situation, for a white guy, huh? Just the sort of situation I see every day and that you guys uniformly deny exists.

I don't like this guy one bit as I have to listen to his right-wing diatribes all day long about minorities getting all the safety net but he can't because he makes almost $40,000 a year on his now dead wife's SS checks. Just like the lazy Americans you guys conjure up he lives entirely on the government dole. But he's white.

The absolute sweetest irony is that he's the one now sounding like he has an entitlement mentality, a staunch conservative who has fallen on bad times. I wouldn't begrudge him and I'd be very sympathetic but for the hypocrasy.

It's very typical of conservatives, they bleat endlessly about how all their hard won money is collected by the state and residstributed to those who are undeserving but when they fall on hard times they're the first to express their entitlement to the same benefits. Pretty hypocritical way to live.

All that said, I"m a professional and I don't mind helping his kids at all. So, I do all I can for him...without making him eat crow. Nice guy I am, huh?

Didn't question the man's partriotism. Questioned his clarity of thought and reality orientation.

Many of whom are widely-disparaged on this board for having entitlement mentalities (code for dark skins) also work and contribute and suffer taxes just like my neighbor. But when they take advantage of the safety net, most on this board ignorantly condemn them.

Maybe you should condemn this white guy too. But I won't join you.

I only criticize him for his hypocracy and then try to help him all I can.

Im sick and gonna die........Im gonna say, well at least now I know what im gonna die from. I always thought I would be shot! Personally, I didnt think obama would be able to keep me alive, despite what he promised me. Now where do I get that free pot? It helps relieve the pain.
