This weekend in our circle of friends, a tragedy occured as a family friends young child was shot accidently and killed. Two young boys were in a room where a loaded 22 rifle lay on a bed. One of the kids picked it up and the rifle discharged striking an 11 year old little boy in the stomach. A horrible tragedy for one so young to be taken so violently.
Upon hearing the news, I realized that with Hunting Season all wrapped up I had a shotgun in the corner of the closet and should place it in the Safe. Little Asa has no access to this closet but hes growing so fast I knew it was best to make it unaccessible.
As I took the gun to the Safe, Little Asa followed behind. When I opened the door to the safe he went to jabbering, what doing Dadda? He asked.
I sat down with him and explained that I was putting the gun in the safe to keep him and the gun safe from people. And that we put things in the safe that we want to keep away from others so that they dont dissappear. I asked did he understand and he nodded yes.
As I began to close the door he squeeled for me to stop. I looked over at him and he had his Pacifier in his hand. He motioned for me to put it in the safe too. Now you gotta know little Asa, that pacifier is his "security blanket".
I guess he did understand what I was trying to say, because he knew I had been trying to get him to throw it away for some weeks now. This way I guess he figured it would be safe from Dadda too.
With everything going on with my nephew and the local tragedy, this did bring a smile to my face. Children are absolutely amazing!
