I'm far from an expert, but I did learn from one...

If that is your dedicated planer rod, using a bridled planer, then I don't think a mono topshot should be on there. We run the main braid line to the bridle, then the 130-foot leader after the bridle.

Don't think you need to put backing on it. Although our rig is backing and 200-yds of braid.

Remember, the bridle-rigged planer rod is a meat winch.

Austin, if you are going to use it as a planer rod, you do not wan't any more line on it, also take the top shot off. Go to the vido section and look up Wahoonbox videos, you will find what you need to know there... and how to set you rod up for the bridal sys...

    keep it simple...

our planer rod has just dacron on it and we pull the heck out of some big planers down here and the current off Ft Lauderdale rolls along pretty good and when you turn it switches to more or less pull... then add big bonitas and kingfish.. we also use it offshore for dolphin and wahoos. power pro will also work we also fill the whole reel with it so we can use it swordfishing or shark fishing.

I concur with the above Austin. No backing neccessary. Also, take off the topshot and put your bridle on. Then attach your topshot to the bridle. 50 yards will be more than long enough...The master reccommends approximately 43.33 yards, give or take an inch or two. Remember what I told you last summer...That braid will cut your arm off...You won't even feel it if it catches a finger till your finger is gone! BE CAREFULL! Feel free to call me if you need help finding the video or have questions.
