    Question Lights/Camera

I have just had installed in my boat two 600 watt underwater lights and one camera facing straight down and two 175 watt underwater lights and one camera in the transom. (i have 3 extra 600 watt lights made by aqualights which we couldn't fit due to fridge units, transducer wet box, fish boxes etc if anyone is interested in buying them from me or aqualights). There is also a latham camera facing aft on the tower. Because i figured it would be too hard in the heat of battle to choose which of the three cameras to have record, we are installing three sony dvi 1000 decks.

so my question is...what do i need to get for home to edit the three tapes that we will be getting into one dvd?

thanks for any help you folks can give.

what is the sony dvi 1000? is that a dvd record unit?. Is there a model and serial number? I could look it up and read some specifications. Most dvd's are in a compressed format and need to be in a uncompressed format to edit.

sorry, it is a sony gv-d1000 which records mini-dv tapes. so i figure i need some kind of deck that plays the tapes that would plug into my computer or records to another tape or straight to a dvd but i am way over my head on this one. i guess i would also need some kind of editing software if it went directly into the computer. thanks.

you need a mini dv cam that plugs into a computer. The connection is firewire or dv connection. The computer should be fast, large hard drive, 1 gig or more of ram. or pm admin. he has a cough.....cough.....apple computer he uses with fantastic results. so u need one more handycam that records mini dv tape and a intel based computer or cough cough apple computer. Admin says the apple has the software built in to edit the movies. Sounds like a sweet setup. Give him a pm or kobey from bunkerhead charters. Kobey uses a cough cough....apple also

For editing software try Adobe Premiere Pro. Almost every copy of Microsoft Windows comes with Window's Movie Maker software, Movie Maker is really basic. I second using a camera as a deck, so you can take it out and record your family movies also.

Flat whats wrong there buddy...have a cold? The apples are a fantastic platform for doing movies and photos, thats why the movie producers use them..caugh...caugh..lol
You can pick up a 24 inch imack loaded to the gills with ram and gigs and some sweet software for around $3,500 just go to www.apple.com to check them out.
htwoopup, go to any electronic store and pick up a real cheap handheld camcorder the records on mini dv tapes like what your sony records on. get a fire wire cable and you will be all set. All you would need is a kick ass imac to make your movies.
