    Angry Lets talk about gas

Let’s talk about fuel prices and let’s do it here.
Maybe I can get a lot of credits.
If I do, be happy to share with anyone that posts here.
Pro-rated to your response of course.
I’m a very simple kind of guy; I see a lot of things in black and white.
It ain’t just the “big guys”.

I’ve posted before and got a lot of really interesting information on why gas costs more
From day to day. I’ve been told to “open my mind” think.

    OK, I’ve thunk on it.

My opinion is that the gas companies, and yes, that includes gas stations that actually do have control over the prices they charge, as witnessed by the varying prices from station to station with the same name. Hell, even the media has commented on the varying prices at different stations. Gouging, Yeh, I think so.
IE: Exxon CITGO et al ( I think that’s French or Latin or something).
Course I don’t know what the hell Al has to do with it thought he just invented the internet.

Well folks here is my cut at it.

If there is any possibility that a “storm”, or any other “natural” occurrence that can Cause a shortage, the price rises immediately. Just an excuse to raise prices.
The fuel in the tanks at the local gas station didn’t cost them any more because there “MAY” be a future problem, but the price rises NOW.
Kind of tells us that they will charge us as much as they can for any real or imagined problem. Excuse to poke us maybe ?
On the other side, prices lower very slowly.
    Why is that?

OK, there was no disaster, Can I get a REFUND, I think not.

    So, what can we do?
    Hell I don’t know.
    But,
I want to drill wherever there is oil on our homeland.
I do not want to be dependant on rag- heads for our fuel.
By the way, do you know why they wear rags on there heads?
    To cover the circumcision scars.

    Hey, Welcome to my mind.

This one we can't blame on the camel lovers.
As you stated there is a potential disaster looming therefore lets rape the American public.
I'm with you, let's just tap into our supply on our homeland. The only drawback to this that can be seen, and we all know it would happen is, once we wake up and tell them to F-OFF, the scumbags will start bombing the rigs and refineries.
We need an alternative power source. The frigging oil companies have us all by the balls and control our lives in EVERY ASPECT! How much is the price of beer going to go up because it costs so much to ship it? Now I'm pissed!
We need to send every death row inmate and lifer over, give them guns and let them have at it. It'll keep good men and women from dieing needlessly and solve our overcrowded prison problems.
    I hate no-see-ums and excessive humidity....WTF?????????

Why is it that they say if we start drilling in other places it will have no effect on prices, but we have one storm shut down a couple of oil rigs in the gulf and the prices jumps like crazy???

Because it's a lot more complicated than most people think. If we started drilling in Alaska today, it might cause a small drop in prices for a couple initial days, but those resources wouldn't be viable for years and years (and that's a long time in oil futures). It is part of solving the problem in the shorter term, but it's not a long term solution either - it's a finite resource and it doesn't matter where it comes from - it's going to run out eventually.

These storms impact prices in 2 ways - they disrupt the normal channels of distribution and more importantly, they create the possibility for a disruption in distribution. Plenty of people know how to use the news and make a lot of money speculating - it becomes a self-fulfilling prophecy. If you knew a storm was headed to the gulf and could screw up distribution for a week, wouldn't you be long oil? Wouldn't you just go long oil because you know everyone else will? This causes an artificial bubble - which then takes 13-14 days to trickle through to the consumer in the form of gas prices.

Beyond just the supply and demand issues, you've got countless other factors at work affecting oil and gas pricing; economic outlook, fx rates, geopolitical concerns, OPEC, and the fact that it's a finite resource.

All that said, our economy is in shambles right now and it's getting worse. Speculators know demand is down and going to continue to shrink.. I wouldn't expect to see oil go above $110 a barrel or gas over $4 until we've straightened ourselves out. God forbid Obama is elected - that could be 8+ years...

Why does big oil get away with all of this? Because they can, they have us by the short hairs here, is ther really anything we can do? I dont know if being less dependent on forign oil would drop the prices....there is too much money to be made, i wonder if the only difference in $$$$$$ would be the oil companys profit.

    PRICE GOUGING BASTARDS

This is pure and simple greed. The local news in mass. reported wholesale fuel costs rose $0.41a gallon yesterday , this is higher than when Katrina slammed the gulf. Yet they finished the newscast with oil only topping $101.00 a barrel WTF. Lets get some fiscal discipline in washington to deal with these scumbags. They are gonna ruin this country if they are allowed to continually bleed the public every chance they get.
