Let the Revolution Begin - Texas Plane Crashes Into IRS Building

Seems a fellow enraged by the IRS plowed his private plane into a building housing IRS offices in Austin in an apparent attempt to have revenge on the IRS for years of, in his opinion, mistreatment.

Here's a link to a news story that quotes statements posted on his blog just before his aerial attack (warning, contains profanity):

    http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/35461747/ns/us_news-life/

Sounds like a Tea Bagger or, at least, a tax protester. But, hey, he's got a few good points.

My prediction = THIS GUY IS QUICKLY GOING TO BECOME A FOLK HERO BY THE RIGHT, PARTICULARLY THE TEA BAGGERS. HE'S GOING TO QUITE RAPIDLY BE THE POSTER BOY OF THE MOVEMENT.

Oh, if it's the building I think it is it contains a number of Federal offices. Actually, there's a building and an adjacent building also full of Federal offices with a very substantial crosswalk going over the street that separates the two buildings.

Every time I think of Timothy McVeigh's exploits I think of that building. That's because his truck bomb, if used there, would have brought down two large Federal buildings with one blast. Austin is within easy driving distance from Oklahoma City too.

It could have happened here in Texas instead of Oklahoma had McVeigh used a little more insight.

    Wrong, Do a Search

Not so. Do a search on my logon name, Longfisher, for posts I've originated.

I'll admit that after the first couple of posts I noticed Mix It Up. I read some threads and then made a single post in another's thread trying to explain the insurance principles involved in the health insurers asking for mandatory health insurance if they made other concessions. I was immediately attacked by a phalanx of right-wing nut cases and called every imaginable foul name.

So, I made it my hobby to, as Bruce Willis said in Die Hard, be "the fly in the ointment and the monkey in the wrench" thereafter. Maybe if you right wingers could be a bit more civil I'd have just moved on. But you weren't. You aren't.

    So, now I have a hobby...you.

Oh, I should point out that this is the Mix it Up and Introductions fourm on the board, although other things which don't fit into the other forums can be posted here. So, it's appropriate to post general interest items here.

Lastly, as Admin recently pointed out to one of our esteemed members who engaged in criticism of admin, it's winter time. My boat along with many other's boats is in storage. With so little to actually do, like fishing, one seeks other pursuits.

But the most important reason I'm here is that most of you loudmouth right-wingers are perfect jerkwads who seem to think you can intimidate those whose beliefs don't perfectly fit your own. I can't be intimidated. And, I want you to know it.

Lastly, it occurred to me after reading the blog this guy posted that some of you might think it was me who flew into the building. And, I knew you'd be worried sick for me or maybe you'd feel a bit of euphoria. The guy certainly died in the crash.

So, I thought I'd post to let you worry-warts know that I'm OK.

    You're welcome.

TL's a Victim of Cognitive Dissonance and Motivational Drive

I presume you mean that MSNBC is not FOX and, therefore, not credible.

Criticizing news sources and disparaging those who might frequent them is a symptom of cognitive dissonance. Those suffering from this dissonance (holding two mutually contradictroy but apparently true ideas in one's mind at the same time) become distressed. So, they then engage in motivational drive to try to relieve that distress.

In layman terms appropriate to TL's post, people like him severely restrict their new sources to those which don't present concepts and constructs that migth conflict with their pre-existing beliefs so as to avoid the distress of cognitive dissonance. This avoidance behavior, along with a host of other patholotical psychoses, is called motivational drive. Its a theory of learning, or, restrictive learning, actually.

Another behavior consistent with motivational drive is to criticize others who might frequent news sites which do present constructs and concepts that would challenge their pre-existing beliefs. Actually, it's the most typical aberrant behavior brought on the motivational drive.

Hey, TL, read more widely. In the short term it will distress you. In the long run it's gonna be good to GREAT for you.

He's getting to be Folk Hero

FBI took down his blog. FaceBook took down his fan page...but not before some comments were copied:

"I agree with Joe...Thank God what he did didn't kill anyone."
"Sad thing is he will be made to look like homegrown terrorist, when, at worst, was a reaction to mistreatment, and at best, a rallying cry for us to wake up."

"Will they come after us for being a fan? prob so huh?"

"Our country needs a revolution, voting for a Democrat or a Republican is not revolutionary, it is big business as usual."

"The wonderful thing about Mr. Stack and his use of the internet is that no matter how hard the Gov tries to cover up his message it will remain alive. The internet is built for redundancy, only wish I could of saved his site."

"Joe was right to take action! not as far as to commit suicide, but to take action and to write so much about how f'ed up this government is! i am not a proud american because of all the bs that regular citizens like you and me have to live with because of lies and cover ups and puppetiers in the government. He did something that i just cannot do, ... See Morehe took action against the irs, the reason why i dont take action is because i know i will not turn any heads, but i can only hope that the man i now look up to, might have turned many heads. Way to go Joe!! One more thing. if my country ever asks for my help, i wil not take action FOR my country, but instead, i will jump the border and say screw you!"

"Joe was one of many, many angry American's that are fed up with being sold out by the whores in Washington that are simply self serving and at the whim of lobbyists. It's a shame he had to take it to that extent he obviously had other issues. His "note" was in many ways a decent assessment of the feelings of so many. VOTE and WORK for the candidate of your choice who can offer SOLUTIONS and not just keep repeating "what's wrong". DUMP the incumbents, they have collectivelly FAILED !"

    Hmmm
Most of the comments I saw were more along the lines of "What a dick!" I guess you looked harder than most...

By the way... I'll save someone the trouble of a search. 32 topics started. One about a transom mounted chum churn and another about floats... The other 30... You got it... Psycho political dribble...
And yes further affirmation that he doesn't give a shit about the crap he pontificates on. If he did he would put it some place that someone might give a shit instead of a fishing site...

    longfisher,
I'll will agree with you on one thing.... this is just the tip of the iceberg. its just now really getting to be crunch time for the middle class in America and I fear that "home-grown terrorism" or "revolution" ,considering which way you look at it, is quickly becoming a very real situation which we will see alot more of in the near future.
