If it wasn't for a neighbor lending me his boat, I wouldn't have near the offshore time under my belt that I have now. He was my best friend's father that lived a few houses down. Waiting for the bridge to open one day when I was 14 he asked if either of us wanted to hold her there and then navigate thru. Well my buddy was scared but I jumped at the opportunity. When I got behind the wheel and asked him what to do he simply said, "Pretend I'm not here, if something happened to me offshore you boys need to know how to do this." Wouldn't give me any instructions. Well, I made it thru got back to the slip and docked the boat myself. From that day on I was allowed to run that boat without him to the canyons on any weekday the weather cooperated and I could find people to go. Rest in peace Capt. Ray Makarovich. Now would I loan my boat to someone else? HELL NO![]()
Family, probably depends on who it is ....i would let my uncle or my cuz take my boat any where any time.....now my dead beat bro in law ..no way........any of my buddies......mabyee one but i would be hesitant
