BASS RIVER, N.J. — New Jersey legislators have provided Viking Yachts with information about state programs that could help the company afford the permit for a wind turbine, according to a report in the Asbury Park Press.

Officials at Viking Yacht said the costs associated with the permit process are proving to be too much of a financial burden, the paper reported, and the company cannot move forward. The company is looking into wind energy to help offset energy costs of more than $1 million a year.

As a result, Sen. Christopher J. Connors, Assemblyman Brian E. Rumpf and Assemblyman Daniel M. Van Pelt wrote to the New Jersey Board of Public Utilities and the New Jersey Economic Development Authority on to find out about grants, rebate programs or tax incentives, according to the newspaper.

"In today's new economy, energy costs will be a key factor in not only businesses ability to return to profitability but also where businesses choose to locate their operations," the Ninth District delegation said in their letter.

Viking Yachts has been a large-scale employer in the South Jersey region for more than 45 years. However, the company has been forced to lay off more than 500 workers since December.

    Energy costs

This is an important issue for Americans.

Green energy is not going to cut it. A banning of fossil fuels and reliance on wind mills and solar will lower the world cost of oil and coal as our demand slows. While we struggle to heat our homes the rest of the world will be rich in energy production from fossil fuel. Manufacturers will continue to leave for energy rich shores. Energy from wind and solar is expensive and unreliable. The countries with abundant and inexpensive power will be the engines of production. Carbon emissions will be unchanged as others increase fossil useage while we decrease.

I havent heard a word re nuclear out of Washington.
