When the election's time came and went in 2008, news networks were jumping on the results sorting them by race, age, and most definitely location. However, never did they categorize by education levels. Perhaps because it made Republicans look bad. In the 2008 presidential elections and presently with the Health Care Bill it is shocking looking at the numbers in this unseen way.

The relationship is seen in more than just the debate over Healthcare Reform. It's seen in many, many instances too.

The smarter you are the more likely you are to be able (and willing?) to think of the world in the complex terms that are demanded if you're to understand it. I think it comes right down to two things, higher education where you're exposed to complex thinking and travel / working abroad where you're exposed to things other than American Exceptionalism.

The right wing is not the only political faction in which insular and dogmatic, essentially non-thinking, people reside. But on the right stupid has become a virtue, whereas, elsewhere it's eschewed.

In today's Washington Post column, Richard Cohen uses the phrase "fiercely stupid" when he refers to Sara Palin. To my mind, he unnecessarily restricts that virtue to Sara. The term's actually more universally applicable to the average white, right-wing voter than it is to Sara.

Do please recall the little rhyme I use; LOUD, PROUD AND LIGHTLY ENDOWED. It encapsulates what we all know of the average right-winger, especially the Republicans.

Those on the right at the working class level never get enough of either education or travel. So, they become very insular and dogmatic, absolutely the two worst things one can have in an electorate if we exclude criminality.
