Landing a 600 lb Blue Marlin from a Canoe

Some years back my brother Dave landed this nice 600 lb Blue Marlin off Christmas Island while fishing from this outrigger canoe. We put our IGFA tag in her dorsal and released it. We chartered one of the local dive operators boats for offshore fishing on two separate trips to Christmas Island. We also caught several big Wahoo, Yellowfin Tuna, Giant Trevalley, and 30 other species of reef fish. We quit fishing for Bonefish after it proved difficult with my disabilities. We also made two side trips to Fanning Island where I got a line-class world record 97 lb. Giant Trevalley and gave it away without realizing it was a record on 20 lb test at that time.

We bought a bunch of lures in Hawaii on the way to Christmas Island. I don't recall what they were.

My brother had a fiberglass model made of his marlin. His wife hated it and it eventually ended up in Upolu, Western Samoa over the bar at a bar called the Blue Marlin. Dave managed the Bar for a time while he lived there. I went down to Samoa for a fishing tournament but the sea was so rough I got sick every day we went out. Dave tried to start up a fishing operation that didn't do so well thanks to the government allowing in the big foreign fishing operations.
