    Kite Rod

I'm going down to Palm Beach in a couple days. I've got the boat and gear but need a Kite rod. I want to try to stay away from buying one. Can you rent a Kite set up?

    rent a kite rod....????

then you need clips , a kite (or two..) and some of us value our kite stuff as much as our girls...lol ... just messing with ya... some kite rods can be bought cheap any reel like a 6/0 high speed penn will work great and just make loops in the line for extra clips.. sails like the kite though so it is an investment! plus ours runs teasers and dredges on the off days.

this may sound kinda stupid but i would just use any big rod with some nice braid on there and just tie it up..

you can always back down or run into it to get the kite back.. dont need to really use a special rod even though they are nice.. i dont find them necessary!!

You don't need a kite rod. One bait out of each rigger and one deep. Keep the baits behind the boat. It is that simple.

You cats need to learn how to fish kites then...

they will work great for you up in yankee land also and you will catch tuna on them instead of dog fish... they work great and I fly two with 6-5 baits

TeddyP, we have some Daiwa Dendoh rods on sale, they are the deep drop models, but should be fine for kite fishing. They are 40% off retail.

    WE YANKEES DO USE THEM!!

they do work awesome but the concentration of fish up here is nothing like down there... so they only really work when chunkin or trying to keep a live 5-6lb bluefish on the top 100 yards from the boat for mr mako to come and such it down!!\

if you ran out to the canyon and found some bait it would be great.. the problem is finding live bait up here like you got down there.. we are not able to bridle live goggle eyes and hoos!! it is just plain unfair!!

I caught tuna fish for 20 years without a kite, I did fly them on the beach though.....
