    Kids these days

I grew up in a family of immigrants so multicultral activities were the norm. My son didn't want to learn spanish when i tried to teach him and I like a fool i relented and kept our converstation to english. But he did get the travel bug from me and my father. At 15 he has been to Brazil, Parguay, Argentina, Mexico and Morehead city (talk about cultural shock). Only Mexico has he actually gone with me. This april me and the Greek Grouper Killers (Nick and Nick) are taking him to Galapagos. Now he comes home with Jen and tells me they just signed him up for a summer trip with his english teacher to Greece, Turkey and Italy. Geez oh flip. I remember I was happy to go to Ocean City as a kid. Our children are living in a small world where everything is a fingertip and airplane ride away. Are other parents on here seeing their children visiting coutnries we use to only dream about.

I know Turners daugher went to Korea a couple of years ago and Double D just got back from Costa Rica with his kids. What are some of the Far reaches of the earth that you guys have taken your kids or let them go with others?

I find it really cool that our kids are seeing how the rest of the world lives so they can develop their own opinions of life in the USA.

Were going back to South Africa with a side trip to Mauritius in a couple months...

Mini has a well to do friend who took her to London and Paris this summer and last year it was Cabo... I wish I had friends like that. I did however have Box, Lee and Mark sneak me into a wahoo tournament dinner in MHC last year though...

I love to travel though I did not get to do much when I was younger. My parents did carry me and my brothers to Puerto Rico when I was in high school and that gave me the bug. I guess I have spoiled my kids cause they love to travel. I sent my two oldest on a 23 day camping tour of the west when they were 16 so they got to see most of the US. When my daughter was in college I sent her to Ireland and England so she could back pack for spring break one year and Cancun the next. My middle son I sent to Avaition Challenge when he was 13 in Alabama. Kinda tough putting him on a plane by himself. Now that he is own his own I footed the bill for his plane tickets to the British Virgin Islands so he could sail around for a week. My youngest never got the bug until he met a girl from Rhode Island and I had to fly him up there several times. He got so good at it he booked a one way ticket at 16 and met her then hopped a bus for NYC to spend the weekend for his 1 year anniversary. My kids have gotten to travel alot and I think for the most part they have learned alot. I wish I could talk the bride into travelling more. Oh wait bad idea. Then she might want to go to Central America fishing with me.

Before moving To the States and having job instead of owning a small business life was good.... 2 Months vacation a year with trips all over with the kids! Moved them all over Africa and Europe making them now just want to stay @ home!!!
Maybe if our dear $$ comes back up a little (a lot) towards the Euro we'll be able to travel across the pond again!

My kids are still young but I will be encouraging them to travel or study abroad.

I did a College semester near London and was lucky enough to spend the whole month of September (back 1992 ) traveling Europe. Holland, Belgium, Germany, Austria, Switzerland, Italy, Greece, France (Alps)...made it to Octoberfest in Munich (highly recommended)...learned more in that month than I did in 4 years of College. This was budget travel, living in hostels. It was awesome...wish I could re-live it right now!

Bill- I'll learn spanish if you adopt me

You make a good point in this thread. When I was a kid, vacation was a week in Christfield MD living in a tent and crabbing everyday. Didn't get to the canyon until I was about 16 (in an 8 knot lobster boat).

Now the little brats are globe hopping, and offshore runs in 50' sportfishers are routine
