    Keeps Me Sober

Tonight my missus and I decided to take a little vacation from the house... Went down to the 43 to watch some football. Theres a beach type bar right there with a couple big screens and an all you can eat pig roast for $10 on Sundays.
We got down to the boat where she could have a leisurly glass of wine and we could enjoy a ring of shrimp cocktail. As we settled in there was obviously a party going hard on the boat next to us. Three very drunk gals cackling away and one bent over the side heaving her lungs out. Two empty bottles of Jagermeister were predominantly displayed among a few other half full odds and ends on their rigging station...
Ten minutes later the one was still hanging over the side... A rather large girl grabbed the sick ones shoulders and tried to stand her up. She was vertical for a few seconds then gravity began to work. Clear alcohol poisoning was seeing to it that there would be no cushion to the fall which ended with a face first landing on their chair pedestal...
I saw the blood, saw the tooth, and also saw two friends who were so plowed they couldn't even help the one who just crashed and burned... One dabbed at her bloodied face with a napkin. A bilge pump and a bale of cotton was more in order. They dragged the poor girl into the salon and laid her on a couch to sleep it off and then decided to go up to the bar for more shots...
I see something like that and it brings me right back to another time in my life. I like it here better... I'm never going to tell someone not to drink. I'll help em quit but never give em crap about drinking... I just hope I never see any of my SFC as plowed as that gal. I guess I put this up as a "think before you do" pubic service announcement... Now i feel better.

Always sad to hear those stories, both sides, wonder how many $1,000s that jug of Jagermeister will cost...I remember the brochure at the police station for the Dare program..."This six pack cost $5,000"...by the time you buy it, get caught drunkin' drivin', loose your license, go to school to get it back, hire a lawyer, lost pay, etc.....

Jäger is some good stuff but it bites you hard once you've had enough. If your gonna drink know when to stop, getting trashed to the point your 1. Throwing up 2. Bustin shit up is ridiculous.

Yeah I get drunk but I'm somewhere safe, and I'm not going to make an ass out of myself and feel like ass in the morning. It's all about pacing yourself. Sounds like she deserved it for being that stupid.

that is a scary thing paul.. i couldnt imagine..

i know being a 24 yr old who has partied hard the past several years that getting intoxicated once in a while is a fun time for me atleast.. but getting completely fall down rip roaring drunk is just not fun..

i have spent some times a little to blasted to end up praying to the porcelain but hardly have i ever not been able to walk or fall over... that is just irresponsible in my book..

it is awesome for you to overcome what you have deep and to be able to sit back, relax, eat some shrimp and have your wife be able to enjoy a nice glass of wine without you even wanting or having a drink!!

Back in the day, I saw a guy so drunk and affected by alcohol poisoning, he was sprawled across a toilet in a public restroom under Huntington Beach Pier on the 4th of July, passed out and he had been heaving blood. My sister's a nurse and she says that in the advance stages of alcohol poisoning, the stomache will start shedding its lining and bleeding will occur. She said the guy was probably very close to dying. And yes, I was a city worker for the summer (during college) and I called for emergency help.

That was enough to keep my drinking to a responsible level. Having a nephew serve 6 mos jail time for his 3rd DUI in 10 years is enough to never get behind the wheel after more than a single drink.

Good Thread Deep. Fortunately those people were at the dock and not out in the ocean. We like to drink a few beers when we are out fishing but nothing to the point of getting trashed. When you are out there are too many things that can go wrong without adding alcohol to the mix. I used to fish with a guy that would start at 7am and drink non stop. If something bad happened like a fire or capsizing he would never be able to get a life vest on and it would have put us in the position of helping him which could endanger us even more.
