    KATRINA/VENICE LA.-2 YEARS LATER

Its been 2 years since hurricane Katrina devastated Louisiana, Alabama and Mississippi. I wanted to let our friends in Venice, Louisiana know that they are not forgotten. There are alot of new members on this site that aren't aware of the generosity that all the members of Sportfishermen.com poured out to help our brothers and sisters in Venice. I wanted to share a couple video's from our trip in 2006. You can check out more vids in the Katrina section of the Video Page.

There are still thousands of people living in trailers two years later.........I hope the people can get back on their feet soon and start living and enjoying life again!!!

Very nice Barry. It is amazing that he place still looks as bad as it does. Keep me posted on when you plan on going and I'll see if I can make the trip with you. At the very least I have stuff that I'll send down there.

yeah, let me know too. i know i can send some furniture and a dryer to someone...

a real shame how our government, at all levels, is dragging their feet to get the help to the people. how hard is it to write friggin check!! we send enough gd money to nations that could care less about us, and this is how we treat our own!

I will always have a special place in my heart for Venice, and the people I met there. I worked there in 1970 on Menhaden Boats,(Empire),and on Oil Field Boats,in 1988-89. I will donate a washer & a chest freezer. Penny & I may make a trip with a 3/4 ton van , and a utility trailer , if there are enough donations to fill them up.

    Very Cool!!!

One thing that I noticed with the community was that they bonded and helped everyone out. They are a very tight knit community. I'd love to fish while I was there too................maybe this winter!!!

    venice or new orleans?

if you had one day to fish while staying in n.o., where would you go next weekend (sept 8th)? what's biting, where and when's the best time to go? and who would you recommend as captains? redfish/trout would be fine, if that's going off.
