    Just Take My Boat

    What would you do?

We woke up at 3:30 and three of us headed out shortly after 4 to meet our buddy with his 23 ft Stamas with a new 250 hp Evinrude at a ramp 23 miles down the road. We were headed out for some trout fishing and then to the shallow rigs about 55 miles out. While we are loading the rest of the supplies and bait on the boat, the captain starts saying that he has not been feeling good and suggests, while we are backing down to the ramp, that maybe he will not go. I have no problem cancelling the trip or switching boats if he is sick but he is adamant that we should just take his boat without him. We were not big on that idea so he said that he would try. We slipped the boat in the water, but before we could clear the breakwater he concluded that he just couldn't make it and insisted that we take his boat without him. What do you do?

I would rather let you cut off one of my toes than take my boat, and I was not about to take another buddies boat without him. We ended up pulling the boat out of the water, going back to the boat yard 25 miles away to get another boat ready and returnig to switch everything out. We left a few hours late, had a bumpy ride out because the wind picked up by that time, were forced to stick to trout fishing because we were now on a 20' boat, but I felt good.

    What would you do?

    Depends

if no one on the boat have ever fished with the guy, or was unfamiliar with the boat, i would have skipped out and gotten my boat.

But being responsible for someone elses rig can be ify.....I say you made a good choice

Had a similar occurance happen to me a couple of years back.

Doing an overnighter for shark and troll some bluefin in the morning.

As soon as we get the boat loaded we find out that the owner can't make it and he insists that we take the boat.

    NO WAY!!!!!

I don't want a fishing trip getting in the way of our friendship. Who knows what could happen.

Went to the bar and got drunk. Turns out the fishing sucked out there that night anyway.

You made the right choice in my opinion.

    No way!

Because I know my luck...I would have got the boat out the inlet and the f-ing brand new engine would have taken a dump or something....or better yet broke something...then the capt would be on my ass for fixing it....nope...nada....never
