it is my opinion that is is the way you go about pursuing your quarry that defines what type of fishing you are doing. if you practice logical thinking, safety, respect to others, and respect for both nature and the species you target then it is sportfishing. and of course sharing those moments with those you care about is included. think back to when we were kids, were the 1/2 pound bream we caught in the creeks and ponds not a sport to us all?
Guys, in no way does this post hint, or elude to any of the other crap going on and please do not follow this thread with that junkola.
Thanks Gofshn, I think, it is what you pursue. Whether it be bream, crappie. bass, drum, marlin whatever turns you on....... Never understood those carp fisherman, but who am I to say..... they love it.... thanx again for your opinion!
I consider it a sportfish!
I really enjoy fishing for them too!
I agree with Gofshn and am tired of the other crap that it has been stirring up.
This is only my opinion.
hey, you ever had the opportunity to catch a carp on a flyrod? on a fly too, not corn? it is a sport i can assure you!

I made my answer to the poll based on a few species... Plain ol shit eatin Jaws fish... They get a no vote. Mako on the other hand is probably one of the finest gamefish in the sea. In my mako 101 article I go into detail about what seperates them from "sharks" .They run faster than any wahoo, farther than any tuna, jump higher than any marlin. Are more nimble and spirited than any other fish I know of at boat side.
My billfish count rides somewhere around the 4000-5000 mark for my lifetime. Indeed wonderful critters. My mako count is probably less than 500 and every one has left me with a permanent memory as indellible as any billfish.
They are not eating machines and simply slinging a chunk of meat won't bevery productive. They are one of a very few true predatory species in the realm of cartilage framed fish... Strikingly similar behavior to a swordfish they earn a spot right along side of them for game status!
Pull on a 600lb thresher some time if you want a thrill... As tough as a bluefin of the same size...
