Jury Convicts DeLay in Money Laundering Trial
AUSTIN, Texas (Nov. 24) -- Former U.S. House Majority Leader Tom DeLay - once one of the most powerful and feared Republicans in Congress -- was convicted Wednesday on charges he illegally funneled corporate money to Texas candidates in 2002.
Jurors deliberated for 19 hours before returning guilty verdicts against DeLay on charges of money laundering and conspiracy to commit money laundering. He faces up to life in prison on the money laundering charge.

I think Admin is going to let me have this space
I certainly applaud the Texas jurists who convicted Delay, but...
...this is just the start of the process, really.
Here in Texas, the judge decides the punishment. Judges are elected officials here. Texas is largely conservative but for the major population centers. It's entirely possible that the judge would give Delay just probation.
Also, the Defense intends to appeal. After the sentence is decided, the judge could order Delay to begin his incarceration while awaiting appeal or he could order Delay to remain free but under court supervision. He doesn't appear to be a flight risk, so, he's likely to remain free.
This is just the beginning of this process not the end. It's like the end of the first quarter in a football game. So, don't get your hopes up.
My position on corrupt politicians is crystal clear...they should all get the maximum sentence, period. And, I dont care one bit that they may be Republican or Democrat or anything. Crooks are crooks and they need to be punished and punished harshly or there is a corrosive effect on our democracy.
