    Jigging Rod

whats the best value for a jigging rod? something that works and is well priced. mostly going to be used offshore for tuna... so decent fish, hopefully... will use a mix of all jigs, some butterflys, some diamond, and others as well...

    any advice appreciated

    thanks

The guy I fish with was telling me the other day that we need to pick up some Shimano Trevala jigging rods. He was amazed with the weight of the rod(light) and the action. He couldn't believe how well it performed. Definetly will be picking up at least one, maybe two for some jigging this year.

Second fish was a swordfish that we pulled the hook on....

The trevala is great for lighter butterfly jigs, but I like 6'6 tallus 15-30 with na torium 30 with 80# PP. The weight of the bigger jigs and bottom rigs are heavy to get down deep in any decent current the bigger rod helps for me. I like the back bone for those 46 inch BFT we seen these past years.

    Just my opinion..

I got a trevala(sp) this year. We weren't able to get any tunas on mine, but we dropped down and pulled up some nice tiles. Others I know who have them have caught tunas on them with no problem.

seaker, is that a trevala you are using? Paul i like the sound of that rod, but Im not sure if i have 300 right now to spend on a rod. I actually know i dont. come summer when i start working i will, so if its still around then i might be interested... but the sound of a 150 dollar shimano is appealing

Offshore Angler also makes one of the new "freestyle jigging" rods. I just bought one, amazingly light. Caught some nice red grouper on it, really strong. I think it was 110 bucks.
