If I am taking a boat to NJ do I have to take the NJ boat course or does this just apply to NJ residents?

You would need the equivalent certificate from your state, or your ticket, I believe
Here is the link to the State Police site FAQ.... I think # 3 addresses your question.

We are from Jersey how the hell would we know? we still have not got any real clear answers in this state........
In New Jermany, oops, I mean new jersey you need a certification for everything.
And the next Boaters Course I offer is this weekend in Ocean City, $60

Hey Neil if they accept other state certs, you can take PAs online and print it out right then, they will send you a plastic card in the mail but it takes about 2 weeks. I think its $25 bucks wether you are a resident or not. Does this NJ requirement apply to coastal waters as well or just lakes and rivers? I cant see how they would be able to enforce that with transient cruisers passing through say the Intercoastal or near shore. Some states dont require any cert.
