Introduction

Hi guys,

My name is Andre Ribeiro and I'm from Brazil. I'm a big fishing fanatic and have a very good expertise in freshwater.

Down here I fish a lot in the southeastern lakes, closer to home. There are lots of Tucunares (Peacock Bass) but way smaller than the ones in the Amazon Basin. At least twice a year I travel to fish in a really good spot like the Amazon Basin, Xingu Basin, Pantanal, Argentina and many other. By the way next Friday I'm going to the Amazon Basin to fish the Rio Negro and some smaller rivers (which are the best).

I hope to learn a lot from you guys and also to help with tips for the ones that will eventually come down.

Cheers,

Andre Ribeiro

Seja bem-vindo, Andre!

Where are you from? I have yet to catch a peacock bass. I'm the SportFishermen.com administrator but have caught a very short list of species so far

It's great to see another brazilian posting here. I hope you have a great trip to the Amazon.

Nice dourado!

Jer

Hi Jer,

If you want to catch one (I should say many) of them, Brazil is the place!

I'm from Belo Horizonte, Minas Gerais state. My town is around 250 miles far from Rio de Janeiro. Close to here there are some lakes with yellow an blue peacock bass that get up to 12 lb. To catch the real big ones we have to go up North.

I hope you come down sometime and you can always count on me if you need some guidance.

In regards to the dourado picture, believe me or not, I caught that fish on my honeymoon. And was my wife who suggested to go fishing in that trip. Can you believe it???

Take care...

Andre, my real name is Renato Luiz, I'm from Sao Paulo, SP

I lived in Fortaleza for the last 6 years but it seems I'm going to move back to Sao Paulo.

I've been only to Monte Verde in Minas Gerais. In Ceará there are several lakes with yellow peacock bass but I didn't have a chance to catch one.

What a great wife you got

Um abraço

Jer

Jer/Renato,

By reading the comments here, seems I'll have to help you to catch the "bocudos". And it will be my pleasure.

If you are really moving to Sao Paulo things will work out much easier.

I fish a lot at the 3 Marias lake, where my boat stays at. Usually I go there twice a month. If you are in Sao Paulo you can come to Belo Horizonte and we can go to the lake over some weekend.

Like I said, the fish there are not as big as the ones in the Amazon, but it's a lot of fun. The average size is like what you see bellow:

Let's keep in touch!

1 Abraço!

Andre, I'm already in Sao Paulo but have not moved yet.

I enjoy catching tiny catfish off the beach (pesca de praia), so that blue peacock bass is a giant to me

I will keep in touch

Jer
