Looking at the Pursuit Drummond SP. Any one have any info?
Billh22- welcome to SFC! I think that there is a thread on the drummond in the boat section. You can look back or do a search and I think you'll find it. Good luck in the hunt!
Bill - I've spent a good amount of time on the Drummond, and find it to be one of the hottest outboard powered fishboats on the market right now. Upsides: Rides awesome in tough seas, incredible tackle station/center island design lets you carry & access all gear, lures, etc. in the blink of an eye, and fit and finish is unassailable. Pursuits retain value extremely well in the marketplace. And, when you consider the size and the cost of similarly sized competitors, the price is absolutely reasonable.
Downsides: The top-loading fridge/freezer they had in the island collected rainwater; Pursuit said they were moving this to a side-loader in a different spot, but I am not sure if they have done so yet. And, the low length to beam ratio does mean you have a relatively narrow cockpit for a boat of that size. That's where the biggest trade-off is, getting the smoother ride but losing some beam (just my opinion, of course.)
Personally, I don't see how you can go wrong with this one.
Thank for the info;
I had a test ride and it runs great, a little roll on a turn but that is from the narrow beam. I think the 2008 with the daul 350hp will be to much.
i have been on this one several times andit is a very good boat. i luv it.
one thing to watch out for, Pursuit uses a very undersized anchor safety line with two little screws holding it in and preventing an accidental anchor release.
on recent trip we were cranking along at 38 knots (those 350hp in 2008 will make it even faster) and the windlass released from the wave action (bow up & down) and BAM! the anchor came off and went along side the boat bumping along the hull and before we knew it the 150 ft of rode was an instant trolling lure bobbing along the surface 100 feet behind boat. lucky a giant BFT did not see it!
anyway, a very dangerous condition.
so keep an eye on that one! otherwise a great riding boat. i have also been on the CC version in big seas in Bahamas and it is soft ride!
