    Infared Camera

Saw the infared cameras at the boat show. We are thinking of putting one on the boat. Does anyone have any experience with this camera? Is it pretty effective for seeing floating objects and from how far? http://www.consumersmarine.com/modpe...&i=510072&aID=

I'm curious about this too. Good idea to bring this up here. I've seen a lot of advertising for them lately and they seem like a good idea.

Ive never used one on the boat, but I saw them at the NYC show and was very impressed. Our next boat will probably have one.

I had a Flir "Mariner" model installed on my boat. You can not beleive the picture in total darkness. Looking down my canel on a moonless dark night, I can see everything down the canal just like daylight. It also works in fog. You can actualy read the numbers on a marker because the reflective material retains heat at a differant rate than the background of the marker. I haven't used it much yet, but I think it may be one of the most usefull things on the boat. The Mariner model pans 360 and tilts up and down using a joy stick pad mounted on the helm.

I was taught to count hands for height, watch their gate and when they smile check their teeth. I can get as close as 6 months doing it this way

Can this camera look through walls? OMG new video toys !!!!!

At the NY show I spoke to the guys at FLIR Systems Inc. Thier products were very easy to network in to any display and the clarity and distance was impressive

One of the neat things about them other than navagation is you can see temp breaks with no color change offshore while fishing.

Ive talked to a guy who used the headsets the military use. He sayes they work great. Im looking at buying a pair for my self. Their pretty cheap on ebay. Plus they see were you look. Im going to ask Kshoff about them, he used to fly in blackhawks. If the pilots use them they have to work for boaters.
