Ok sorry for not posting sooner but I have been a little busy, new baby at home and the wife banned me from the boat since the end of August, a month before her due date. Well we had a little boy (future fishin' buddy I hope) and I did manage to get out twice since but...so thanks to everyone for their reports and pics because without them I think I would have gone nuts by now!!!
Well Mom insists (and I did not even have to beg) we get him on the water next year and I'm not arguing, so that leads me to my question, can anyone recommend an infant life jacket? (I am not planning on sinking anytime soon) The ones at the local stores look very cheap, I have done a little research on the internet but it is hard to tell what will be safe and comfy for the little guy. The Mustang Survival looks the nicest but maybe seems to bulky, any help is greatly appreciated
Go with the mustang. I have three kids under the age of six and they have been on the boat from two weeks of hatching. The mustang has the best test ratings around. Yes, a little bulky but has a better safety factor. Good luck and get the boy out on the water.
Spend the money (or better yet have mom spend the money! ) on the mustang. Here is Liam at 2 1/2 months for his first trip out. It fit good and he had plenty of room and most important, I felt comfortable with him being out there.
Keep in mind that your boy will be 6-7 months old by the time you get him out there (presuming April-ish). Just make sure what you buy know will still fit him then! They grow like weeds. Mine turns 6 months ant the end of this month and he's a horse!
Other musts, IMO, are a laundry basket, think blanket and floppy hat that ties on! When momma was not holding him we just put Liam in the laundry basket filled with the blanket and he was content!
Another FYI, Check you pediatrician about this, but ours told us no sunscreen until 6 months (not even the baby sunscreen) because the baby's skin is thin and would absorb the chemicals.
I agree with Capt-D. Go with the Mustang, little pricey but well worth it. I've had my niece on the water since she was 3 months old. And my sister was insistant on the Mustang lifejacket. Now if I can only get her to fish and not just want to take boat rides, she's already 5 and it seems like yesterday when she was born.
They catch fish also. This is a picture taken May of 2005 just before Caroline turned two. Pin fish on the Barbie pole. It doesn't get any better than that. Attachment 16907
