Idea for a website issues.

Hey all I was wondering if anybody has ever had an idea for a website or an addition to a website. I have one, a damn good one I believe but I am not a web designer (well not good enough to put this together) So I would like to sell the idea but I have no idea with how to protect my idea while pitching it to prospects. Can you patent a website or an idea for one? Please help I for one think this could help a lot of people, not in the help the homeless or orphans kind of way but in a take a little of the monotony and stress out of life kinda way. Anyone in the know please help. Admin or Jer any ideas how to do this? Or if someone is on the design side I might be interested in a split of some sort but you would really have to know database (SQL) design real well. Sorry for not giving to much info but Ive been screwed by a "good" friend before on an idea so Im holding my tounge, plus maybe its a stupid idea and I still want everyone to keep thinking Im the genius you think I am.
