ice fishing in vermont
I'm a little perplexed as to why Vermont is not one of the choices offered for a fishing report. I trout fish here, bass fish here, and Ice fish here. Anyone else in the state out there? How are the fish biting on Champlain, Bomoseen, Fairlee, or even little Dewey's pond.

I live in New Hampshire, not Vermont. But I am just a few minutes down the road from Brattleboro. I think there are two main reasons that there isn't an option for Vermont reports: one is that this site is an almost exclusive saltwater site, and secondly, I would venture a guess that because of that there are very few members from Vermont.
I mean, take a look at the freshwater forum. There are 5 posts in the past month.
Anyway, welcome to the site! I, too fish mostly freshwater, albeit a bit south of you. I haven't had much luck through the ice yet down here. Have you been out at all in your neck of the woods?

Hello rocko mccool, welcome aboard
I'm the administrator of SportFishermen.com and I just added Vermont as an option for fishing reports. We have had 6,626 visitors from Vermont so far in 2009 so I'm sure we have a few members from up there
We only have coastal states listed as options for fishing reports since SportFishermen.com is mostly saltwater, but we do list hundreds of freshwater tournaments in our Fishing Tournaments database for example.
I'm looking forward to working and start developing the freshwater side of the site in 2010, especially the Great Lakes.
Please share pictures of your catches and local fishing scenary

Hi Rocko. I live in northwestern mass a little south of Bratt and also stay on the south shore a good portion of the summer. I have fished all my life. From Vermont and New Hampshire waters south. Grew up in cental mass fishing Watchusett and our great coast. My suggestion to you is to get yourself a 17 or 18 foot boat and start trailering to Rockport Mass, Narigansett Bay RI, the Cape, etc and fish our nearshore species in New England.(Stripers, Blues, Flounder, Fluke, Blackfish, Seabass, Scup, etc.) Then buy a bigger boat and start fishing for bluefin. You will never look back. My bait these days is as big or bigger than any trout or smally you catch. I will not hesitate to put a 10 lb bluefish out for bait in search of a large bluefin or mako. Ice fishing is a good way to pass the winter days, after it is gone it is all salt water for me.

Hello Rocko,
I grew up on Long Lake in Littleton MA, fishing and ice fishing all year round. Wasn't much for sitting in the ice shack, but while we waited for the flags to pop, we had a hockey game or went snowmobiling around, and always had a big bonfire....all that many years back. I "graduated" to salt water as well and used bait bigger than my freshwater catches as bait for bluefin...but every New Year's Day I go back to Long Lake for a skate and put a pin or two in....
at 58, it's as close to my childhood as I can get. Have fun, it will stay with you a lifetime....
Jer, thanks for adding the freshwater aspect...

Went out this afternoon. Missed one decent fish on a tip up that felt like a 2-3 pound largemouth. That's it for the tip ups, although we were able to jig up perch non stop all afternoon which made for a fun time.
Anyone else been out?
