Stop staring at my Avatar.
I will never own another dog.
I see we have a lot of dog lovers on this blog so you can sympathize with what my wife and I went through yesterday. I don't think I could ever put down another dog.
I sent the following email to friends and family yesterday.
Tasha passed away today after being a wonderful best friend for 17 years.
We took her to the shore one last time earlier this month. She perked up once we reached the beach,; she remembered....oh how she loves the beach . When she was younger she would run up and down the beach with her little legs moving so fast they became a blur under her furry little body. It was a sight that would stop beach walkers in their tracks.
Friends and lovers have come and gone over the last 17 years but Tasha was always there to greet me with her tail wagging when I walked in the door.
Unconditional love.
She will be missed.

I think Admin is going to let me have this space
I with you.
I had a lab that came to work with me everyday for 13 years. When it was his time to go, it was the hardest thing I ever had to do.
When they make dogs that live as long as people I will get another one.
All I can tell you is that time makes the blow a bit softer.
Sorry for your loss.

17 years!
BW, I have seen Your dog on the beach and You are correct....She looked like one of those Gremlins runnin' around. Sorry for Your loss. It is truly a hard row to hoe. I have had a few dogs over the years and have gone through the same emotions. Don't say never, imagine, all those great memories over again for the next 17yrs! Good Luck.

Uggg.... I know I am facing the same thing with my 13 year old Beagle in the near future. I just cant imagine. She is my first baby. She has gone through the ringer with me and has been neglected attention since my boys have been born but she still wags and kisses every chance she gets.

Nappy Haired Tackle Ho
Here is a post by Ocnslr, made in a previous thread about the loss of a dog. I find it hopefully very true.
Just this side of heaven is a place called Rainbow Bridge.
When an animal dies that has been especially close to someone here, that pet goes to Rainbow Bridge. There are meadows and hills for all of our special friends so they can run and play together. There is plenty of food, water and sunshine, and our friends are warm and comfortable.
All the animals who had been ill and old are restored to health and vigor. Those who were hurt or maimed are made whole and strong again, just as we remember them in our dreams of days and times gone by. The animals are happy and content, except for one small thing; they each miss someone very special to them, who had to be left behind.
They all run and play together, but the day comes when one suddenly stops and looks into the distance. His bright eyes are intent. His eager body quivers. Suddenly he begins to run from the group, flying over the green grass, his legs carrying him faster and faster.
You have been spotted, and when you and your special friend finally meet, you cling together in joyous reunion, never to be parted again. The happy kisses rain upon your face; your hands again caress the beloved head, and you look once more into the trusting eyes of your pet, so long gone from your life but never absent from your heart.
Then you cross Rainbow Bridge together....

BW sorry for your lose. We had to put down our rotty in sept. It was the hardest thing I've had to do up till this point in my life. We miss him very bad and my son still talks about how much he still loves him. We will get another soon but not just yet. I understand how you feel but it will get better with time.
