I thought this was illegal (1035*great white)

I just recieved this email thismorning, below is what it read I thought great white was a protected species. Any ideas or answers would be appreciated.

    Caught off Ucluelet B.C.......

    ?

UCLUELET, B.C. (West side of Vancouver Island)

    ?

While the ocean vessel 'Dawn Raider' was commercial fishing for dogfish,

this Great White was hooked in the mouth but only resisted slightly for 15
minutes before it came up alongside the boat to have a look, long enough for
one of the crew members to slip a rope around it's tail.

    ?

And that's when the s**t hit the fan!.? The shark took off towing the 42
foot fishing boat backwards through the water at about 7 Knots.

Just like in JAWS, the boat was taking on water over the stern and the crew

watched in horror as the shark would actually jump completely out of the
water at times. This went on for an hour before the shark finally drowned.

    ?

She weighed in at 1035 LBS. It is suspected she followed a weak El Nino
current into local waters in search of food.? Although mid-60 deg. water is
considered ideal for these sharks, the larger ones can tolerate water in the
    low 50s.

whether or not a great white was caught off BC recently, those pictures are of a mako that was caught off Nova Scotia or New Brunswick, Canada a few years ago, If I remember correctly.

It is my understanding that it is illegal as well, but since those are heisted photos it may be BS.

The unbelievable will happen when cornering a mako green. One bad attitude all day long. I would say there are many that size just out of range of many boats on the east coast. Good thing too ! Unpredictable is an understatement with a mako of size on the other end of the line.

Some emails are gotchas. This one was harmless. Check your picture/attachment size before passing go.

    Nice pic and mean teeth...thanks

This brings up a question I've been trying to figure out- is it illegal to kill a white shark, or is it illegal to catch one at all? I've been out and seen them and wondered what they would fight like.
