Go see a real doctor. See a chiropractor if recommended by your MD for an acute injury. Dont mess with your back. It can haunt you for the rest of your life.

    1. The MOST important thing you can do is rest and ice. The heat is not necessary until the spasm / inflamation has resided. It can make the inflamation worse if you heat before. You may start to feel better and, being an active person, it may be hard to resist jumping back into it. DON'T DO IT!!!! I speak from experience. Take at LEAST a month off. You may think Im crazy now ... but you wont when you re-aggravate it and wish you listened to me.

    2. Take regular doses of an anti-inflammatory such as ibuprofen.

    3. The most common reason for lower back injuries is tight hamstrings so keep this in mind post recovery. Now that you have done it once ... it is always one wrong movement that will re-trigger unless you pay careful attention to the problem areas.

Jersey, A hot tub does wonders for loosening those real tight muscles as well. With the worst back and neck I know of and I can vouch for strecting being a must for muscular pain. A little anti-inflamatory ie...advil etc.. will calm those areas down as well. This may nag you for weeks to come so resist the urge to push it to soon. You may need some PT for te tens machine etc,,, Massage is also good.

coming from the family of freaks that i do, i am intimately familiar with various types of bodily injuries. id listen to your friend, if you wake up in the morning and you cant walk, go to the doctor, your in bad shape. muscles like your hamstring tend to ball or roll if torn completely. pulls and minor tears, should prolly see the doctor anyways.

ice that thing for 24 hrs flat out! dont heat it up yet. gotta knock the swelling down before you can start heatin that up.

hope the flexoral and wine helped!

Yikes ... didnt realize it was the hammie. I can tell you right now that if you are still in pain it is likely partially torn. Is it balling up, bruising, or getting a fever at all? Sometimes tears will turn into a little golf ball or baseball sized knot and get very warm to the touch. I serioiusly doubt you caused a full tear. You would not be able to see it would hurt so bad and all function would be lost.
Probably time to see a doc if you havent yet. Let us know how it turns out!
