    I/O Carbon guard

Should I be running carbon Guard in my gas for my 5.7 Mercruiser? I ran it in my outboard but not sure about I/O's

Yes- alot of outboards are prone for carbon build-up. I'm not positive why, but my guess is from the oil mixture on the 2 strokes.

JBQ- I never heard of adding carbon gaurd for an I/O, but I'm sure it can't hurt.

Maybe JAWZ can answer this for you.

for some reason i remember answering the question.... but i guess i have to get into more detail. merc verado, yamaha four stroke. yes they maybe outboards but they are just like i/o's....fourstroke motors. merc and yamaha tell you to use quickkleen and ringfree. both are a carbon guard. so why not use it in your i/o? once again.....it can only help.

Yes you did answer it some people like to find out a little more about a product before they go dumping it in a machine that costs as much as a house. No offense, but I for one am not going to dump anything in any engine based on a "it can only help" from some one I dont know without finding out more. I had never heard it called a carbon guard. I am one of the many that does their own maintenance and repair and am capable of tearing down and rebuilding an sbc (small block chevy) in my sleep, well half asleep and have done so many times.

As a customer if you wouldve given me that kind of answer you wouldve been looking for a new customer. People are here for info both about fishing and their boats so dont take it personally if people ask for more detail.

Great, Like I said, I'm not sure about I/O's. Quickkleen and Ringuard are the products I'm looking for my 5.7 Merc. I know they add additives/detergents in gas/fuel these days for cleaning motors but wanted to know if there was anything else I could do. I used the Evinrude carbon guard in my outboard and it did help with the oil/fuel mixture. Thanks for clearing it up for me. I don't think Jaws would answer any of my questions anyway.

Short and sweet can be cool and we'd rather you answered than not. If you dont always have time to answer in detail we'll wait. Thanks

one of the first things you should be doing...

inspect your fuel lines for leaks and if they are alcohol / ethanol approved lines ...make sure you get a clean glass bowl and when you spin off your filter dump it back in the bowl and see what comes out.. the new fuels are also eating up your fuel hoses both feed and fill. you can change over to the new sierra lines and save yourself a bunch of grief down the road. clean fuel is the best along with running your engine like it was supposed to be run.
