    You know whats right!

Give the notice! Who knows you may have to go back there one day!!!!!

But I will tell you this! 18 years ago the dept I currently work for hired me on tuesday and told me to report to work on thursday! I told them that I needed to give a two week notice, they told me!......"BE HERE ON THURSDAY OR THE JOB GOES TO THE NEXT CANDIDATE". I took the job and felt horrible quiting the way I did, but it all worked out in the long run.

Give the notice but explain that the new employer really wants you to start ASAP. Leave it up to the employer to make the decision if they really want someone hanging around for two weeks eventhough their heart and mind are somewhere else. I have not had many people quit on me but when they do I respectfully decline their two weeks and pay them anyway.

As Bo Shembeckler said to Bill Frieder when he quit at Michigan but wanted to coach throughout the NCAA Tournament. "No you won't, a Michagan man will coach The University of Michigan". Steve Fisher went on to coach Michigan to the Championship.

Sound advise and will also go a long way to you collecting any unused vavcation pay, etc. and most importantly, your last check. Also leaves the door open in the event things don't work out at the new place.

    Good luck.

If its Sales, quit right away and go. Sales jobs normally don't work a notice.

    anything else...work a notice.

This is a no brainer...give proper notice, all involved will respect you for it. It is up to your current employer if they want you to work the next two weeks, but you will have done the right thing by making it THEIR decision.

I think it was Tom who said his current employer told him to quit w/o notice or no job...don't think I could work for someone that did that.

Being an employer, I can tell you it's best to give the proper notice. I have had employees in the past leave without notice, only to have to ask for their jobs back. I treat my employees with great respect, pay them well and I expect the same treatment.

If they give notice and things don't work out, they can usually have their jobs back as long as I haven't filled their position.

If they leave on no notice, I won't rehire, and I will let anyone who asks for a reference of the condition of their departure.

When I hire I check references and ask questions about their charachter, work ethics, ability and if they were dependable (on time, reliable, method of departure). These are IMPORTANT questions that I value answers to.

Do yourself a favor, GIVE THE PROPER NOTICE, it builds charachter and you'll always be proud you did the right thing..

    Hope this helps...
