I got a ticket....

I got a ticket this morning for an expired tag. Just forgot. No excuses. However, the "owner" of my truck, as referenced on the ticket says it's some roofing company here in the area. Is this grounds for dismissal of the ticket since the records are in error? It's $111.00, should or can I fight it? You know, after I get the truck inspected!!

Any advice is much appreciated!

I don't think it's worth the fight unless you can prove that your job was in jeapardy if you did not operate the vehicle, then you MAY have a chance. Otherwise it is YOUR responsibility to make sure everything is in order as the operator of the vehicle.

Plus will the "time off" equal or exceed YOUR time?

I ran into the same situation driving for a company a while back and I had to pay the ticket, although the owner did take care of the fine.

No, the truck is mine. It's listed on the ticket as owned by a roofing company. I also noticed another error, - the ticket is for expired tags. However, the date shows 2011 as when the registration will expire. I think the officer typed in wrong info somewhere. That's the only reason, I guess, that the following info is wrong:

OWNER = SOME ROOFING COMPANY
TAG EXPIRES = 7/15/2011
YEAR OF VEHICLE = 2006 (mine is an '02)
OWNER'S ADDRESS = NOT MINE

The nicest thing to do since you are at fault "for something" is to go to the police department that issued the ticket, and point out the innacuracies, with a smile on your face and say "maybe this wasn't me." Perhaps you might play on somone's Christmas spirit and the ticket might be forgiven, if not mail in the $111, and be done with it.......

WOW! So let me get this straight.

Not your company...check
Valid tags...check (Is the tag #correct?)
Wrong year of vehicle...check
Incorrect owners address...check

Did the cop pass the breathalizer? Was he able to walk a straight line? Say the alphabet? Stand on one foot and touch his nose? WTF is up with that? This scenario is a little more complicated than my little mis-hap. I hope some pros will chime in to help you out on this one, it is beyond my knowledge. Sorry.

Sounds like the ticket wasn't issued to "you" therefore not responsible for it...

Of course you could beat it todeath... Go on line and renew right now then in a couple days go into the dmv and request a status report as of the date (Not time) printed out... It will show valid on the day... The cop already screwed the pooch... You could have some fun...

The bad thing about this is that the Roof contractor will probably get a notice in the mail that he has a court date and will have to somehow try and get this sorted out without knowing WTF is going on!

The funny thing about this is that I know a roofing contractor that has about the worst luck of anybody I know. I can hear him now saying "Now Neil you aren't going to believe what I just got in the mail. The GD State is saying I got pulled over on the 8th of December for dead tags and it says right on the summons that the tags are good. Can you believe this chit!"

I would bet money on this one that the ticket is issued in his name!

They way it usually works here is get the tag renewed and carry proof to the DA and they will throw it out.
