OK, so how many of you have seen or even done something similar?

That looks like Lowtide's Barbie car, so I guess the guy on the rod is Hubris... Wouldn't expect anything different from them...

A little fishing tackle history for those interested in that sort of thing.

    Amazing! Silly!

Actually, though, I know of a case where a very (and justifiably) famous big game fisherman used a vehicle to do some drag testing. The angler was Stewart Cambell (RIP) of Houston and "Chunda" and its many world record billfish's fame. Stewart had tested and switched over to our TTS 30 reels, our first lever drag reels of any kind. Back then, Stewart only fished 30# and sought any and all 30# IGFA records. He broke a number of records with that reel and loved it.

Then, after we introduced the industry shaking TLD reels, I had to convince him to switch to these even better models. Long story short, we had fished together, knew each other well, and he pretty much trusted me and Stewart said that if what I told him about the drags, etc. was true, that he would switch over 100% to them - but ONLY if he was convinced that they were better than our original lever drags. I knew this would be some great PR and kept my fingers crossed when he started fishing the reels and catching big numbers of whites, sails, and blues on the La Guaria Bank down in Venezuela.

One of the ways that Stewart tested the reels for long term durability, something that he was concerned about due to their non-metal construction, was by hooking the line up to a rear bumper on a car and having Mickey, his wife, drive off. He watched and video taped the rod tips and regularly inspected the drag washers as this was done and he put one helluva lot of miles (I forget how many) on a couple of the reels without damaging or wearing out the drags. Stewart became a huge fan of TLD's after that and broke many more world records that still stand in the book.

I'm not sure what that dumbass in the video was trying to do hooking up to that car, but I sure know what Stewart was doing back in the day...talk about a serious fisherman? And a fine gentleman who I miss greatly.
