I shoot a 50 cal, 250gr shockwave with 90gr of Pyrodex powder.
Does this sound light to you ?
How much powder do you shoot ?

rick what gun are you shooting , i shoot a tc knight, and it seems to like 2 tablets of pyrodex 100 grn. with the same grain bullet.
I am shooting a TC Triumph. I thought 90gr was fine but then watching a couple of show over the holidays I saw two different well knowns claim to be shooting 150gr. It sound like a lot to me. Heck my powder measurer tool only goes to 120gr I think.

if you do a search on thompson the company actually advises you what amount of powder to use with different grain bullets. also alot of owner feedback as to what load to use. i believe 150 is way to much, but im in s, jersey and my max shot would be 100 125 yards.
IN MY T/C OMEGA, I USE 150GR. OF POWDER W/ 180GR. SABOT, I USE THE SAME GR. BULLET IN MY 300 MAG AND ITS WORKS JUST FINE BUT I USE A HOLLOW POINT IN THE 50 CAL INSTEAD OF A BALLISTIC TIP THAT I USE IN THE 300. I SHOOT TARGETS AT 200YDS W/THAT SET-UP AND IN THE FIELD HAVE KILLED OUT TO 125YDS, YET TO FIND A WAY TO BLAST THROUGH ANY TYPE OF BRUSH.
ACCURACY, NOT A PROBLEM AT ALL, EXCEPT TRYING TO BLOW THROUGH SOME UNDERBRUSH THEN WATCH OUT.
I USE A LEUPOLD 3.5-10X40 SCOPE WITH RAISED RINGS SO I CAN STILL USE MY RIFLE SIGHTS FOR QUICK SHOTS UP CLOSE. I SIGHT IN AT 2 1/2" HIGH AT FIFTY YARDS SO, I CAN HOLD AND SHOOT DEAD ON UP TO 200 YDS,WITH TRIPLE SE7EN POWDER, AND HORNADY SABOTS WITHOUT ANY PROBLEMS.
I shoot two pyrodex pellets... I'm pretty sure they are 50 grain each... I actually seem to get down range faster and more accurately than if I max out at 3 pellets (150) . At 100 yards that slug flattens out to the size of a quarter...

WITH THIS TYPE OF WEAPON I'M LOOKING FOR MORE KNOCK DOWN POWER THAN SPEED. WHEN I FIRST STARTED WITH THE T/C I USE TOO LEAD THE ANIMAL WITH MY SHOT BUT I SOON FOUND OUT THAT WASN'T NECESSARY, I WAS HITTING WHERE I WAS AIMING TO FAR AHEAD AND HAD TO DO ALOT OF TRACKING TO FINISH THE DEAL. WHAT I DID WAS SWITCH TO A HOLLOW POINT AND HOLD WHERE I WANTED TO AND THAT ENDED THE PROBLEM. BETWEEN 95 AND 125 YDS, THE ENTRANCE AND EXIT HOLES WHERE LARGE, I ATTRIBUTE THAT TO THE HOLLOW POINT, I WANT TO SOLVE THE ISSUE OF SHOOTING THROUGH BRUSH FROM 10 TO 50 YDS, THATS WHERE THE MAJOR ISSUES ARE.
When I trimmed back to two rather than three my world got better all the way around, including I'm pretty sure knock down. The three pellet rounds I shot seemed to keyhole at relatively short range (+- 40 yards) and there was not nearly the mushroom from them as the down loaded ones...
I think it was relative to powder burn speed vs barrel length. I'm thinking that with the third pellet I was still getting burn after the bullet left the barrel and the gasses were sending it tumbling...
Black powder does burn quick but not like its modern smokeless cousins...
