How Far???
How far in advance do you start planning and doing things for a trip or season's woth of trips?
As you know I've been working on Chub stuff for months. Still two months away and I'm feeling pressured to get preperations completed... Starting to track the water, fish, island happenings, etc. Most every day I do something towards that project. I sat there on my boat this morning in part to get ready for the big trip.
When I got home today I started playing in my lure toy chest and started not only adding pieces for Chub, but also started building more lures for the northeast canyon season still over a half year away. My sharking kit for June was finished up and put away earlier this week. I'll start tracking water and stuff beginning in March. Some might consider being that far ahead anal or just plain nuts. Me, I consider it a part of doing the job right. As the time ticks by I can always add to or change stuff but the big part is long since ready to rock.
I've always enjoyed a little luxury from myself to me. I never have to ask "do we have?" at worst it might be "where is?"... Just add water seems to keep life uncomplicated...
So I'm curious... Am I the only nut case that rigs stuff 6 months early? Usually enough stuff to last for two season on top of that? How much time in advance of trips/ seasons do you guys start to prep?

"If at first you don't succeed, don't try skydiving"
The thought process never stops on planning trips. Misconduct and I have been making spreader bars for tuna since before the holidays. If it wasn't for a little health setback I had we'd have a dozen or more made up by now. Now that I'm good to go we'll be making bars and daisy chains again real soon. In the next few weeks I'll start making our shark rigs. Very soon I'll respool all my rods, as will Misconduct, and restock on hooks and trolling weights and all the other ancillaries you need offshore and inshore.
Also, we'll be checking the med and safety kits to make sure flares are up to date, fire extinguisher is charged and if we need any bandages and stuff like that.
With the AC Boat Show next weekend we're even planning on the next upgrade for our fishing platform, maybe a Carolina Classic, Henrique, Albemarle? You can’t plan these things too soon.
I don't think you're alone in the advance planning department when it come to fishing.
