How do you make your computer run faster...

Recently mine has been getting bogged down, and takes it's time to get to my homepage and then to get Explorer up and running. I know there are folders somewhere, where you can delete things to get the computer moving faster...Jer...La Gringa can you help me?

    Thanks for any help,

    Bill

Try going to Internet Explorer - click on tools(far right top) - delete browsing history - delete all.

The next bite on a jig.
Run ad-aware and spybot (both freeware) then run disk cleanup from your system tools under accessories.

I get mine to run faster by telling it I know what its been doing without me around and that I have a gun...

You can also defrag the machine... Somebody can explain better than I the steps to get there...

Thanks guys, you too Deep, Defragged last week, do the Adaware thing all the time, deleting browsing history made a big difference. I remember someone saying something about Start Up folder, but mine had nothing in it...any other ideas would be much appreciated.

    Thanks,

    Bill

Back up all your necessary files elsewhere and then wipe and reload. You can try and use one of several registry cleaners, but Ive always found the best way is to wipe and start fresh. I have an image loaded on another hard drive that has my operating system and all the programs I want to keep. I created it after I set up my pc with all the settings I use and my network settings and any other things I need to tweak then before going online I use a program like ghost to copy that hard drive as an image to a back up drive thats not used. When ever the damn thing gets bogged down I save anything I want to keep and format the drive and do a fresh reload. Nothing else ever seems to work quite as well. This can be done with either laptops or desktops.

delete temporary internet files also.... and stay away from **** sites - they put all kinds of crap on a computer.... and anything that is free (like free music)...

Next step: click on "Start" - "All programs" - "Accessories" -"System Tools" - Disk Cleanup" next do "Disk De frag" restart your computer and you should be fine.
