Boys I'm confused here, My dredges consist of 36-12"-14" mullet with 3oz. chin lead on each with a 48oz skirted trolling lead in the front of the dredge. I run one on each side of the boat off the riggers in the clean water. I can't imagine hooking any fish on one, much less a fired up marlin, that would be a total nightmare to deal with I would think. Help me out here?
You and I have similar dredge rigs and I'm not going to put a hook on mine. Wish I had a pic of one of the ballyhoo dredges I put together for sailfishing out of Ft. Pierce. It was 2 six arm bars double rigged on each dropper. Took me quite a while to rig it for the captain with 48 hoos plus back-ups. It was hard enough to deploy and retrieve and you had to keep it under 5kts. Put a hook in something like that and what trouble it would cause. But as with everything in fishing someone will figure how to adapt a great teaser into a weapon to catch fish on. That is what is so awesome when it comes to fishing, there are some real creative people helping advance the sport. Poor Fish!
Adam, I am doing the same only hanging 3 fish on each bar and double them up and pulling about them 4 to 4 1/2 kts. depending on the conditions, (seas, current, ect. ) I thought I was missing something here with the hook thing, hadn't heard of that one yet.
this year in rock seson im going to rig one with manhaten. give it a try but put a lure behind it!!!
