hook and line alewife???

I live on the elk river, Ches Bay
We have been gerting a lot of alewife in the river, does any one have any sugesstions on how to catch and release, (what lures etc.) my little boy would greatly appreiciate it

They should be attracted to gold hooks. Maybe the small gold shad spoons or shad darts could work.

They're strong little suckers for their size.

Tiny shad darts rigged tandem seem to work well here.
