    High Speed Wahoo Trolling

Anyone have any advice on High Speed Trolling.

I run three lines, at staggered positions, all on these in-line weights on 50 WLRSA Tiagra's.

    Some issues:

I don't catch chit, man, and have basically run by schools of Mahi that get terrified by my 12 knots approaching.

    I get drag slippage.

How do the NC boys target Wahoo?

Any thoughts would help. Thank you.

I'm pretty sure that in Over/Under 's report , when they picked up that #114 recently, they were doing about 9 knots.

Go to wahoo kings sight and he has great articles on how to setup your rigs.

Here we are doing the High Speed Thing Last Sunday.

    HOOS

What lures are you pulling ? And at what speed ? I believe that presentation is everything no matter what species your targeting. Is the wahoo bite on around you and you aren't catchin? If you want to catch em high speed trolling, invest in some good lures that are for WaHoo fishing and you will see a major difference in the results. Alot of the boys fishing the Mid-Atlantic that are catchin hoos are doing it on a planer with Islanders with horse ballyhoo, they wahoo proof em with a short piece of wire to keep from getting chewed off. But they are trolling for other species as well not high speed trolling. That's not the way I fish for em, but that's what I see going on out of OCMD, some of you Carolina guys chime in here, How bout it? WAHOONBOX, anybody home???

    Small World

Was at the Miami Beach Rod and Reel Club last night (Wed meetings) and behold Capt. Ron Schatman was there talking. He's the Wahooking.com guy and I never thought of checking his site till just now. It is good.

    Wahoooo!!

I never had much luck with the high speed trolling thing so we regrouped a few years back. We switched to larger trolling baits with med large or select large ballyhoo while targeting Wahoo. I am a big fan of the Large Islanders and large hoos behind them trolled between 7-9mph. I know alot of people think I am crazy and I might get blasted here for saying this but I am not a big wire fan at all. I like trolling these baits on flouro carbon leaders with 9/0 or 10/0 7732 hooks and anti chafing coils around the loops. Over the past few years we have only lost a few lures and feel we have had many more strikes using the flouro. Yes the flouro does fray and we have to re-rigg after each fish but this is what has worked for us and I always use what I have confidence in. Also a planer rod is a must we catch about 1/2 down and 1/2 on top. Here are just a few that we have caught using flouro leaders......Mark
