Most interesting speculation there dumbduck--- please answer this for me then--- I was a Navy pilot. When I applied for and was accepted into OCS and later flight school, I only had ( and still have) a certificate of live birth--- that's all that I have available. As a military brat growing upl I attended non U.S. Schools just like Obama. Finally, my dad was the biggest biggot to come out of Anson County NC and his brother was a known member of the KKK in the '50's and 60's----- none of this slowed me down in getting my required clearances---- In fact, the only headache I had was getting a waiver on a charge of destroying Government property when I was 11 years old---- something I had completely forgot about. I threw a baseball through a window on a military base.

So, what do you really know about governmental security clearances?

I've had 3 of the things, 1 of them almost kept me from getting my Captains License...

Well Glenn things have changed in the last 8 years one of your issues could prevent you from getting a clearence now. Your schooling issues arent exactly the same as the Presidents. I recall Obama attended a Muslim school at the behest of his Muslim Father, did you? Did Kahlid Al-Mansour pay off your student loans or write you a letter of recomendation to Harvard Law, I dont think so. Even though your uncle was a member of a watched group, did he claim responsibility for over a dozen bombings and express that he has no regrets for his actions? Was your father a citizen of a foreign nation or was your stepfathers? Probably not. While just one of these may not cause an issue, all of them together now would most likely cause a DQ based on character issues.

Im guessing your clearance took place in the late 70's through the mid 80's? I went through a similar one as yours in the early 90's for a rotary wing Warrant Officer in the Army but thats another story altogether.

As a matter of fact, a certificate of live birth is not acceptable now, that is what I presented to my BI interviewer (this past July), not knowing the difference, and was informed I had to produce an actual BC with a raised govt seal. Thats what I know of the matter.

Just out of curiosity Glenn why is it that you only have a CLB available? Is it due to where or when you were born? Honestly I am only asking to see why this would be the case.

But it does seem to me that the question's that were not answered about Obama's past (as far as we know), would have layed more heavily on a military member than running for Prez. I'm not talking about the run of the mill military member or your regular Naval Aviator (this isn't a slight toward's Glenn). I'm speaking more of the "special op's" guy's. Yes and I know there are many level's of the special op's unit's, but they are all under the control of the Office of the President. This is the sticking point for me. Fair is fair and rule's are rule's. The rule's got side stepped this time it appear's to me, I don't know how or why. All I know is I "smell a rat". Frank

The concern Glenn isnt that he is a risk. Its that none of this was publicly discussed and vetted when there were so many concerns. It was hush hushed the whole way through and if you brought it up it was for bigotted and racial reasons. Why?
The Dems made a huge stink about McCains place of birth, but when it was about Obama they were offended that it was even brought up, some going as far as to claim it was a racial issue. Why? Why the big deal if there was nothing to hide. Everytime a question about the Pres is brought up that his party doesnt like, they yell racism, it has nothing to do with that.

As for me, yes I was in the military in the early '80s. As for my "birth certificate" saying "Certificate of Live Birth" damnifiknow---- it was issued by the State of California. I don't know squat about any distinctions between the two, but a quick Google revealed that they are essentially one in the same and more a function of state naming conventions.

Well.... my reason for posting the artile was simple. It is from 2004. In 2004 Obama was a "community organizer". Why make something up to sideline a run at the POTUS in 2004??? Why would someone randomly make this up regarding nothing more than a "community organizer"??? Was IS interesting is the fact that a country believes their "naturally born-son" is doing quite well in America, so they write about it.

Im not saying the Muslim school in and of itself should be an exclusion, but there are some questions as to the type of school and who it was run by. Again just more unanswered questions. In this day and age unanswered questions like this will scuttle a clearance, they want to nail everything down or forget about it, no clearance.

As far as the birth certificate or certificate of live birth, this isnt to argue, but it was explained to me by a state official that the CLB is issued by a hospital saying that they have seen the child and are verifying its existence, not that it was necessarily born in the hospital, they will issue them for children born at elsewhere with midwives as well. It is just proof that the child exists the date of birth, and who the parents are, not where it was born.

Birth certificates are issued by the state as proof of where and when the child is born and has to verified by someone at the hospital in the document dept. Forgive my ignorance I dont remember the positions title, my brother just went through some birth certificate issues with his daughter and this was the person he had to deal with.

This may vary state by state, I dont know. I would think it would be the same nationwide, as proof of citizenship. That was why I needed a BC to prove citizenship for my clearance. I actually now have both in my posession, from the same state, one issued by the hospital where I was born and the other from the state itself.

I honestly dont know where the POTUS was born. The problem was their delay and hesitation to prove it. After their questioning of McCain and the POTUS' history if there was no issue they should have jumped on this from the start and done as much as they could as quickly as they could have to prove it. Not stonewalled everyone. There is a lot of justifiable speculation on the issue and too many items that point to him not being born in the U.S.
