Hey Admin - Give it up for Jer

Admin - I have been watching Jer over the past couple of months take up fishing so I did a little homework. Fortaleza is a beautiful seaside village with some of the best coastline in Brazil. So I think we need to find it in the Sportfisherman.com budget to send Jer a video camera and document some of these places. First of all I want to know why their isn't a offshore sportfishing community down their on the COAST of BRAZIL. secondly I see that Fortaleza is home to some traditional commerical fishing sailboats that have fished these waters for centuries. I would love to know what they catch and how they do it. Next I want to see some video footage of Flexeiras and Jericoacara. The washington post dubbed Jericoacara as one of the ten most beautiful places on the planet in 1994. Jer is a scant 300km from their. Lets get a SF.com veiw of this place. Hiow about sending him to Paracuru or other cities during Carnival. I am sure their are some things that the sf.com folks would like to see during Carnival. Come on I think we would all like to see some interesting footage from Fortaleza, CE, BR

Fortaleza is pretty big, it's the 4th biggest brazilian city - the pop is about 2.4million

Fortaleza and the rest of the Ceará coast is beautiful indeed, I've visited most of the beaches that aren't too far from Fortaleza. I have pictures but they are in my office in São Paulo I think

I don't have a video camera, but I do have a good digital camera and the video quality is also good I think. I haven't used it much outdoors so I need to test a bit more. The only (and big) problem is that my 1GB memory card is good for only 15 minutes of video. I was thinking about buying a 4GB card.
Recently I bought 3 reserve batteries, so I think they would be enough

In Brazil there isn't a offshore sportfishing community like you said - only a few inshore/offshore sportfishing boats here and there. I don't know much about this subject, but I think most (if not all) the charter boats are in Bahia, Espirito Santo, Rio de Janeiro, São Paulo and maybe a few in the south.

I know there are tons of big hotel boats in the Amazon and Pantanal, but a very small number of boats avaliable for offshore fishing.

Fortaleza (and other beach villages) is home of a big commercial sailboat fleet. The boats are very small. I know they target red snapper, but it's overfished

There are also lobster boats (diesel) - but due to predatory and illegal activities the production is going down and the boat owners and moving to other states. Very sad.

It's funny how Anthony's Ark talked about only beaches I haven't visited yet.
I have been to a beach next to Flexeiras (Munda&#250 last year I think.

Jericoacoara is like 6 hours away from car/bus, the access is not easy. I haven't been there yet for this reason.

There's an "out of season" carnival here in Fortaleza in July, which I've never been too

Fortaleza is also home of Inace Shipyard - they build big and beautiful aluminum yachts.

They started their operations building commercial fishing boats. They also own an awesome hotel and marina right next to it. Recently they started catching red crabs 6 hours offshore from Fortaleza... they used to run commercial fishing boats.

Jer- Your country sounds very nice. If you get some time, I'd like to see what Brazil looks like.
