Satr brite is still buying print ads in mags to include BOATING (and not just because I used to write for them).
Our goal is to maintain brand awareness, pure & simple. Instead of pulling back, we're pushing outwards and even expanding into new markets.
Some boat magazines will not survive these trying times, but others will come back stronger than ever, if only because there will be less competition.
btw, we gauge the value of online advertising by the number of hits and clickthroughs we get. So in order to support the companies advertising on this fine forum, and inspire them to renew their ads, click the banner ads.

Sit down Shut up And fish
I agree Internet ads are a great thing because you are able to track it right to the sale. I never said not to advertise at all, my argument is that with traditional advertising it is tough to directly link the advertisements to sales. That is why it is important not to go nuts when people don't come knocking down your door instantly after you put an ad out.
This is what my Professor wrote back, "If you can remember what we discussed in class, we are all confused because of new emerging media (i.e., Internet). Media define how advertising works. Traditional advertising definition is based on those mass media and Internet as a medium is not a mass media in general"
He goes on to say it is an ongoing debate within academia. No doubt I think the internet is the best way to market products, I was just questioning if it is marketing or traditional advertising.
